On this day in 1961, four-time Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Frost spoke on the Lane Series to a standing-room-only crowd, closing out the season. Just months after reciting “The Gift Outright” at President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration—and fresh from lectures at Hebrew University of Jerusalem—the 86-year-old poet made his third appearance at the University of Vermont.

A Burlington Free Press review later that week by John Donoghue captured the moment in verse under the headline “Robert Frost Inspires Reviewer to Imitate Him.”
