As we head into the final weekend before school starts, some exciting news has been coming into the BHS Art Department!

Our AP Art Portfolio scores are in, and we are incredibly proud of our students. In AP 2D Art and Design, 100% of our students passed, while 88% of our AP Drawing students passed. Both of these results are above the state, national, and global averages. Even more exciting, 50% of our students earned scores high enough to potentially receive college credit for their portfolios.

Results like these do not happen without an incredible amount of dedication. A special thank you goes to art teacher Deb Coyle and our "Super Art Sub," Avery Horton, who spent countless hours helping, encouraging, and pushing our students to create their very best work. We are also grateful for the continued support of BHS teachers and administrators who believe in our students and the arts.

And we have even more exciting news!

Paulina Aguilera, who was already recognized as an Iowa All-State Artist, has received an art scholarship to the University of Northern Iowa! Paulina also earned the highest possible score of a 5 on her AP Art portfolio.

The best part? Paulina is just beginning her senior year at BHS. We could not be prouder of what she has already accomplished, and I have a feeling there are many more amazing things ahead for her.

What a great way to begin another year of art at BHS. Congratulations to all of our students, and thank you to everyone who continues to support the arts!
