Vermont Young Playwrights

Vermont Young Playwrights VYP helps young people unleash their unique voices through the medium of short plays. Teachers then select and submit four plays for Festival consideration.

A partnership between Vermont Stage, the Flynn Center and Young Writers Project, Vermont Young Playwrights helps young people to unleash their unique voices through the medium of short plays. At the annual VYP Festival, professional actors and directors have brought over 800 of those funny, moving, thought-provoking and surprising plays to life over the years. Through the VYP program a professiona

l playwright/ teaching artist visits the middle or high school classroom for a 2- or 3- day residency, introducing students to the fundamentals of playwriting, and using writing prompts to inspire ideas. On the later visits, students support and critique one another in a moderated feedback process, and refine their plays further. A panel of theater artists read and ranks these plays at the Flynn for successful application of playwriting principles. Vermont Stage casts professional actors and assigns directors to bring the plays to life at the Festival in May. Each school sees one of their plays fully staged, and hears another in a cold reading and moderated feedback session.

Check out student written plays at Addison Repertory Theater in Middlebury!

The Never Before Ten Minute One Acts return this December 8-10

The Addison Repertory Theater is now performing their newest rendition in their famous season of the Never Before Seen Ten Minute One Acts. The newest A.R.T crew has been writing and working on creating the best season of the One Acts to date. The shows are being presented in our black box theater in Middlebury on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of December at 7:00pm. The show runs at $7 for Students and $10 Adults-- which really runs about a dollar a show for adults and even less for students. What a Steal! Come for a laugh, or come for a cry, but leave feeling completely different than you arrived. For tickets call (802)382-1036.
