These artists are excited to show their work: prints (monotypes, woodblock, and Linoleum cut) and Artist books. Much of the work 'happened' at new new art studio either during a workshop or rental time. This is a great opportunity to see what sorts of things we get up to at new new arts studio and maybe you can find a gift or two!
Please join us this weekend!

In early 2023, “The Glassies” — Alyssa Oxley, Cherie Marschall, Christy Witters, and Angela Nephew — approached me with a question: Could exploring printmaking deepen or shift their understanding of fused glass?
These four artists and friends, all working primarily in glass, were eager to step outside their usual practice. Willing to juggle schedules, embrace the unknown, and approach a new medium with openness, they organized a class at new new art studio. I led them through several printmaking techniques, including monotype, collograph, and drypoint.
Each artist followed their own path, exploring techniques that sparked their interest and letting inspiration lead the way. This exhibition offers a glimpse into that creative exploration. The printmaking process revealed unexpected connections to their glass work — in texture, layering, and approach.

This solo show of deeply personal work includes artist books, sketchbooks, monotype prints, mixed-media drawings, and spans 10 years since the death of my older brother Peter.

Through printmaking, drawing, sewing, writing, and bookmaking, I continue to converse with Peter. This show is both a tribute and an invitation to consider how the creative act can bear witness when words fall short.

CREATIVE BOOKMAKING II
with Jane Ploughman and
Susan Smereka

September 24 - October 29
Wednesdays 3 to 6 pm

$350

Part 2 of creative bookmaking is here! This class is for those with some experience in bookmaking. New book structures include variations in the accordion, and the flag book with 2 or 3 'flags'. You will awaken or hone your skills in making prototypes for each of the structures. For decorative paper, we will learn the art of making patterns using stenciling taught by guest artist Eliza Nichols.
Using a variety of media, including collage, stamping, and your newly created decorative paper, participants will build the structures again with their own content.
All supplies included

Jane Ploughman, bookmaker and printmaker from New Haven, Vermont, and Susan Smereka will co-teach this workshop. Eliza Nichols will be a special guest teacher for the art of stenciling.
Wednesdays, 3 to 6 pm you are guaranteed plenty of one-on-one instruction.

Our current bodies of work share a common aspiration to reuse and recycle; we love the history that worn objects carry. Although the use of found material is evident in both of our practices, this show emphasizes out different mediums and techniques; specifically how pieces are fastened together. While Kevin’s work is constructed, sculpted, and screwed, mine is layered, printed, and stitched. For me, transforming family ephemera (one of my source materials) is a way of considering the many facets of family dynamics. My work shared at Towle Hill Studios explores family trees and the inherent logic (not found on a genealogical tree) that is its own organic creature. Kevin’s playful sculpture is the product of a wandering spirit. His work is informed by a direct connection to material - while collecting, manipulating, or assembling - and he likes nothing more than to be surprised in the process.
