Prairie View Art took 1st Place at League!!!!! So many ribbons and honors and I did not get enough pictures! The dedication, drive and passion is evident in all the beautiful work made this year—I am so proud of our PV artists 🦬 💚

We brought home the 3D Best of Show, by Melinzie Barnett, and our 3D team got 1st place in the on-sight ceramic sculpture challenge. They had to create a full chess board and pieces in 2 hours in a theme drawn from a hat! We also swept the Ceramic Wheel Throwing category, taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable mention and we almost swept Ceramic Sculpture and Photography as well!

We had so much fun at the Raku Fest at Neosho Community College!! The kids got to throw, glaze and fire Raku—which is the rapid removal of pieces from the kiln while glowing hot, creating thermal shock, and then placing them in combustible materials, which produces distinct cracking, color variations, and unique, imperfect designs. Fun day, and even more fun artists!!

Another year, another amazing group of artists and creative minds!

We headed off to Pitt State this morning to participate in a Dry Point Printmaking Workshop and to get a tour of their beautiful art department. We feel inspired and ready to start another creative year!

Prairie View Art did it again. We took 1st Place at the Pioneer League Art Contest for the third year in a row—we got the three-peat!!! We also took home the two best of show awards! Melinzie Barnett in the 3D Best of Show and Alaina Hamons in the 2D Best of Show.

These artists are absolutely amazing, every single one of them. They have put in so much care, time, and energy into their artwork, but most importantly they have put in the love to each piece they have made. I am beyond proud to be there art teacher. There is so much fun, love and art friendship in these photos, and that’s really what matters most ❤️

The Highland Art Show was a success! With over 44 schools, 827 students, and 1,217 artworks on display, PV brought home 11 ribbons and took 2nd place overall in the 1A, 2A and 3A category!! In my four years at PV we have never placed in the overall category. The show is HUGE, competitive and it’s such a challenging task to do so!

Big shout out to Justice Hopper who received a Best of Show Award for her ceramic sculpture, titled “The Traveler” which is a playful personification of a mole traveling the world one yard at a time. Great job to all the artists and their dedication—true rockstars!

We have to brag on two of our PV Artists who each earned $1,000 scholarships to the Emporia State Art Program. Ms. Melinzie Barnett and Ms. Kaylee Rhynerson were two of the three recipients of those scholarships. Out of 100 students from a variety of schools, we were awarded two of the three scholarships! That is a huge accomplishment for our program and these artists—way to go ladies!!
