The City of Burleson Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that it has officially received accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), joining a select group of agencies recognized for meeting national standards of excellence.

This achievement represents nearly two years of dedicated work by our team to gather documentation, review policies and procedures, coordinate with other City departments, and demonstrate how our practices meet or exceed rigorous standards. This recognition reflects our team’s commitment to continuous improvement, responsible management, and providing high-quality spaces and services to our community.

Congratulations to the entire Parks and Recreation team and thank you to the City leadership, City departments, and community members who helped make this milestone possible!

Well... more than usual. 🐶

Dogs & Donuts: Halloween Edition is Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8:30-10 a.m. at Burleson Bark Park, 616 Memorial Plaza.

Come enjoy donuts and apple c***r while your furry best friend shows off their Halloween spirit. Don't forget the costume because we'll be looking for some of the cutest and creepiest pups in Burleson.

Join the fabulous Carolina Angulo for a FREE Belly Dance for Beginners class this Wednesday, October 14 at 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at The BRiCk!

No registration required. No experience needed. Ages 7 and up are welcome! Just wear comfortable workout clothes (you don’t have to show your belly).

Carolina is a professional belly dance instructor with 28+ years of experience. She was trained from a young age by her mother, Vanessa Angulo, a pioneer of belly dance in the Dominican Republic and studied authentic Egyptian technique with masters like Ahmed Hussein, Yousry Shariff, and Mahmoud Reda. She’s an award-winning dancer, choreographer, and teacher, including 3rd Place in the Professional Category at the Nile Egypt Festival!

Our city volunteers help make many of our Parks and Recreation events and programs possible. This month, we want to share the story of one of our newest volunteers, Sharon Hayes.

🏹 Sharon has been shooting archery since 2010 and is a certified instructor and instructor trainer. She volunteered to bring archery to Russell Farm Art Center and now introduces kids and adults to the sport in a fun, safe, and welcoming environment during Farm events.

🫙 After retiring in 2019, Sharon started canning as a hobby, beginning with pepper jelly. Today, she leads monthly canning classes at Russell Farm Art Center, teaching food-preservation skills that participants can safely use at home.

Thank you, Sharon, for your enthusiasm for teaching and for connecting with our community! Every volunteer hour makes a big difference.

Our Parks team has officially kicked off work on the grant-funded enhancement project at Charlie’s Wildscape at Russell Farm Art Center. Staff have been hard at work preparing the site and trail improvements have been initiated with new native plants officially in the ground! Removing excess brush and overgrown vegetation helps reduce potential wildfire fuel, improve trail access, and make room for native plants to establish and thrive. In combination with the new plantings, these improvements will provide a valuable habitat for wildlife while creating an inviting space for the community to connect with nature and learn about native plants, water conservation and sustainable landscaping.

The project continues on Friday, November 6 at 10 a.m. with our Texas Arbor Day celebration, when we will plant native trees to expand the tree trail and enhance the Wildscape. Volunteers are welcome to come help us plant the next generation of Russell Farm’s trees.

Thank you to our grant sponsor, Tarrant Regional Water District – Save Tarrant Water, for funding the native plants, trees, two rain barrels, and six Go N Grow pollinator boxes that made these habitat improvements possible.

This is an early step in the Wildscape’s next chapter and there’s more to come! As our new plants take root and mature and the seasons change, we invite you to watch the space grow with us.
