Zed Fest Film Festival Was founded in 2010 to honor and acknowledge filmmakers and screenwriters who persevere against all odds to get their films made and tell their stories. In our competition we search for the Filmmakers and Screenwriters that embody the spirit of passionate movie making itself. Our top Filmmaker award is the Zed Fest Film Festival Independent Spirit Award it is bestowed each y
ear to the filmmaker who we believe had to make the most sacrifices in so-called production value, or best utilized whatever resources were available to them, or…our personal favorite, chose to work in the classic styles and principles of “B” and “Z-Movies”.This award has been inspired by Independent Filmmaking Pioneers Robot Monster (1953) Director Phil Tucker, Jim Jarmusch, John Waters, Elaine May, John Cassavetes, and Penelope Spheeris. These filmmakers followed their passion for filmmaking. They embraced the love of filmmaking as an artform. They used their creativity and ingenuity in their filmmaking and did not let their budget limit their creativity or become an obstacle to their film project. That is very inspirational to us and we hope to today's emerging filmmakers.
