50 years later, the Academy [finally] apologizes to Sacheen Littlefeather, "after suffering harassment and discrimination for protesting Native American mistreatment, the activist will be the guest of honor at an evening of healing and Indigenous celebration hosted by the Academy Museum on Sept. 17," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

During the 45th Academy Awards, she was booed on stage, and threatened with violence. “'I was stunned. I never thought I’d live to see the day I would be hearing this, experiencing this,' Littlefeather (Apache/Yaqui/Ariz.), now 75, tells The Hollywood Reporter of receiving the Academy’s statement, which was first privately presented to her in June."

According to the Hollywood Reporter article, "She had two promises to keep: not to touch the statuette ([Marlon] Brando’s instructions [his behest after declining the best actor award]), and to keep her comments to 60 seconds (an order from show producer Howard Koch, who told Littlefeather minutes before the award presentation that he had security on hand to arrest her if she went past time)."

After her speech regarding how "American Indians" were being treated in the film industry and its movies, John Wayne had to be physically restrained or else he was going to attack her.

"Littlefeather, who had acted in a few films before her infamous moment, says that the federal government threatened to shut down any talk shows or productions that put her on the air."

Thankfully, she is now being recognized and was granted a formal apology. The viewing of her visit to the Academy will be free to watch online, schedule a reservation today.

"In July 1848, 200 woman suffragists, organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott, met in Seneca Falls, New York, to discuss women’s rights. After approving measures asserting the right of women to educational and employment opportunities, they passed a resolution that declared 'it is the duty of the women of this country to secure to themselves their sacred right to the elective franchise.' ... By March of 1920, just one more state was needed to ratify the 19th Amendment in order for it to become law. The Tennessee General Assembly took up the question in August, and suffragists and anti-suffragists bore down on Nashville. The State Senate voted convincingly to ratify, but the House failed to do so twice, by two votes of 48 to 48. State Rep. Harry T. Burn, a 24-year-old from McMinn County, was one of the 'nay' votes. Reportedly, he had intended to vote for ratification but had been persuaded not to by telegrams from his constituents and members of his party. Just as a third vote was set to begin, Burn received a letter from his mother, Febb Ensminger Burn, that read, in part, 'Hurrah and vote for Suffrage and don't keep them in doubt … I've been watching to see how you stood but have not seen anything yet ... Don't forget to be a good boy.' On the third vote, Burn changed his mind. Thanks to his single vote, the House approved the amendment, Tennessee ratified it, and the Constitution was changed to guarantee women the right to vote."
