What’s in the box?❓🎁❓

This is my diy guitar tech briefcase. It’s ready for quick string changes and maintenance anywhere on the fly!
I’ve found myself with limited space for a shop since I moved, so I’ve been using this custom made mobile workbench case my father and I put together. It has a compact and portable design that’s great to have at the gig or for a restring in the kitchen!

These 3 guitars are from my childhood and they are very special to me. They are all now “retired from service” and are cherished at home. I have countless hours playing on them. They were well cared for over the years and some have had restoration work.

The blue Mako Strat was my first guitar and it was painted by my father. He also later painted the Jackson Rhoads V with flames. It was my second guitar and it was originally black. And the red LTD was the coolest high school graduation present ever! 🎸

New strings and a new look. . .

Doing some temporary pickup swapping. Testing some different bridge models. Trying out a Duncan Design HB103 for now. . .
This Jackson recieved a full fret level, rounded fret ends and recrown, and a fretboard polish. It now feels superb and plays beautifully.

When you try to remove the k**b. . .

This is a common issue with cheap potentiometers. Attempt to “carefully” remove the cheap press fit k**b, and it easily pulls the shaft out with it. And now it’s a goner. I’ve heard many complaints about this issue. Budget guitars typically come with the lowest quality electronics. It’s a good idea to replace and upgrade them to reliable components to save the gig.

The plan for this guitar was to replace all the electronics anyway. And install a CTS or Alpha volume pot, a 5-way super switch, and a Tesi killswitch. And add a set of Seymour Duncan pickups with coil-split. It’s time to read schematics and break out the soldering gun. . . Work In Progress. . . 🎸

Repair and paint job on old pickup rings. . . The white color is a change from those standard black plastic rings. I think they compliment this guitar nicely. Now its wearing a tuxedo. .
