Writing a social media post for this past Saturday doesn’t do the day justice. I am beyond grateful for the incredible people who came together to make Broken World - Buffalo Su***de Prevention Event possible.

We had hundreds of people come out to help raise funds for Devin Waring Foundation Inc. and awareness for mental health resources. The Western New York community came together to support su***de prevention this weekend.

Firstly, I want to thank our sponsors of the event:

- WNY Psychiatry & Counseling Associates - Theresa Totaro & Vincent Croglio
- Trusted Gives
- Mental Health Association in Niagara County, Inc. - Colpoys

Next, I have to thank my band, Call Me Disaster, for putting up with my endless messages about the event and planning. Liv, Brandon Mariotti, and Ryan Thomas put in so much work to crush a set and bring people to the show. Our friend, Ryan Weatherbee “Bee” quickly stepped in to play bass with us, and learned the set in a weekend and was ready to jam in three weeks.

Eight other incredible bands came together:

- Spud Browning
- Romcom Victims
- Expert Witness
- Sevagoth
- Duskhaven
- Silver Proof
- Socialite
- Heart for Sale

This year, I worked to bring more nonprofit resources to the event to help bring awareness to the amazing work they’re doing right here in the Buffalo:

- The Devin Waring Foundation Inc.
- Crisis Services (of Erie County)
- Buffalo Urban League
- Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition
- Mental Health Association in Niagara County, Inc.
- BeeH.Y.V.E. Wellness INC.

Our volunteers helped make the day run smoothly and I can’t thank them enough for their help:

Bill Andrews, Mike Wagner, Buffalo Urban League, Maria Lapetina, Ava Casell-Lapetina, April Noel, Joseph Nowak, Kaitlin Chapman, Meichle Latham Lcswr, Kevin Re LoVullo, Yassin Abdikadir, & more!

Buffalo Iron Works and their staff took care of so much for us this weekend. They also helped make things easy.

Last but not least, thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, donated, or shared the event. You helped play a role in making the day a success. Thank you for supporting mental health.

You Matter. 💙

For those of you who don't know, we're helping to raise funds for the incredible !

The Devin Waring Foundation honors the memory of Devin Waring, a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend.

Devin's infectious energy and charm brightened every room he entered. Tragically, Devin's life was cut short when he died by su***de on December 16, 2017, just three months after his 18th birthday.

Devin's story is a reminder of a broader crisis affecting our nation.

In 2022, 49,476 individuals died by su***de in the United States, equating to one death every 11 minutes. This marked an age-adjusted su***de rate of 14.2 per 100,000 individuals. The crisis deepens among younger populations; su***de remains the second leading cause of death for those aged 10–34, with 22% of high school students reporting serious consideration of su***de in the past year.

The Devin Waring Foundation is dedicated to addressing this urgent issue. Their mission is to illuminate the darkness surrounding su***de, offering hope and education to those affected. They recognize that su***de impacts individuals across all demographics, and they are committed to reaching anyone in need.

Through targeted awareness campaigns, prevention programs, and community support initiatives, they strive to ensure that help is accessible, and hope is tangible.

Their ongoing fundraising efforts are dedicated to supporting su***de prevention and education, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that no one faces their struggles alone.

Broken World is now a proud partner with the Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition!

The Anti-Stigma Coalition was formed to stop the stigma surrounding mental health. They're doing it by creating a community conversation where people can share their stories, their struggles, and their successes with each other. Through our efforts, we hope that people dealing with mental health challenges will know they are not alone, help is available and recovery is possible.

Go check out the Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition and get involved! They'll be at the event on August 1st!

Meet Jonathan Lambert, at broken world, he will share the deeply personal story of losing not one, but multiple friends to su***de, the regrets he still carries and what those experiences taught him about connection.

Jonathan will be at the event all day handing out resources and shirts. Make sure you come meet him August 1st!
