By building on the strong theatre roots in the area, we will blend experience and ingenuity in a collaborative environment for theatre artists. 🗣️ 2026-2027 SEASON NOW OPEN FOR APPRENTICE APPLICANTS ‼️

Second Generation Theatre (2nd Gen) is ecstatic to continue our second season of our Apprentice Program, a workforce development initiative designed to equip the next generation of theatre professionals with the real-world skills, mentorship, and experience needed to thrive in the industry.

With the formalization of this program, we expanded our commitment to include behind-the-scenes roles that are often overlooked in early-career opportunities.

Current undergraduates can receive course credit as well as be compensated for their time, but the program is also open to college graduates and adults entering the field for the first time. Applications are now being accepted on our website - so head over to the link in our bio for more info on how to apply!

Last seen in SGT's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, Jake is thrilled to be working with Second Generation again and is honored to help tell this story. You'll see this guy on every darn stage in the Buffalo theatre community, but most recently, he was on the biggest Shea's stage in Starring Buffalo's RENT In Concert as Benny! As the fiery, dedicated NICU nurse Caroline in our upcoming reading of tiny father, we are thrilled to welcome back to the 2nd Gen stage - Melinda Capeles! 🩷

Melinda is an award-winning Hard of Hearing performing artist, educator, and advocate based in Buffalo. A proud Ensemble Member of Road Less Traveled Theater, she has performed with organizations including Second Generation Theatre, Irish Classical Theatre Company, Theatre of Youth, Shakespeare in Delaware Park, Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney World, and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. Her work spans acting, dance, singing, voice-over work, acrobatics, clowning, and cinematic stunt performance. Melinda remains dedicated to fostering accessibility, inclusion, and collaboration between Deaf and hearing artists through the performing arts.

When a “friends with benefits” relationship unexpectedly results in the early arrival of a baby girl, Daniel must choose between being a biological parent or becoming a father. With the help of Caroline, a no-nonsense night nurse, the new dad learns to navigate the protocols and frustrations of NICU life on his uncertain path to parenthood.
