Founded in 1862, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum (formerly the Albright-Knox Art Gallery) is the sixth-oldest public art institution in the United States. For more than 160 years, the Buffalo AKG has collected, conserved, and exhibited the art of its time, often working directly with living artists. This tradition has given rise to one of the world’s most extraordinary collections of modern and contemporary art.

"Ragnar Kjartansson: Politics of the Obvious" opens NEXT WEEK! The Members' Preview will take place on Thursday, September 3, from 4 to 7 pm on Floors 1 and 2 of the Gundlach Building. A Voices in Contemporary Art Talk with the artist and Charles Balbach Chief Curator Cathleen Chaffee will follow in the Lipsey Auditorium at 8 pm and is open to the public. The exhibition will be open to the public on M&T FIRST FRIDAY, September 4! To pay homage to one of the artist's most famous works, "The Visitors," musicians will take over our campus in busker-style performances.

The Buffalo AKG is saddened to learn of the death of artist Yayoi Kusama. For nearly a year, we were honored to present an exhibition of works by the artist, "One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama." This exhibition ended in July 2026, but endowed the museum and its community with lasting memories and experiences of this influential and distinctive artist's work.
Visitors explored Kusama's unique vision of self-obliteration, a radical approach to connecting with others and the universe. Observing one's body in the infinite space of a mirrored room or losing one's sense of place by navigating a field of colorful lamps, the boundary between the self and the outside world is dissolved and visitors become one with everything around them, one with eternity.

NOW ON VIEW: "Natvar Bhavsar: Free Yourself" is now on view in the M&T Bank Gallery, located in the Knox Building, through Sunday, April 4, 2027! This exhibition surveys fifty years of the artist's expressive abstractions, inviting viewers to meditate on the power of pure color.

Experience "Ali Banisadr: Temple of the Mind," the first-ever artist collection intervention at the Buffalo AKG! In addition to the installation in the Hemicycle Gallery, a focused selection of Banisadr’s work is on view throughout the Wilmers Building. Tonight, in a sold-out After Hours event, we are thrilled to welcome Buffalo native and renowned psychic Frank Andrews in his return after more than sixty years living and working in New York City. Recognized for his talent, character, and charm by those that know and love him, Frank's storied career as a psychic and friend to some of the most well-known celebrities has made him a distinguished personality.
Frank’s generosity is also on view at the Buffalo AKG, as the museum is honored to enshrine his celebrity inside its own walls. The museum recently debuted in its galleries Frank's recent gift: a personal portrait painted by Andy Warhol.
