Founded in 1862, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum (formerly the Albright-Knox Art Gallery) is the sixth-oldest public art institution in the United States. For more than 160 years, the Buffalo AKG has collected, conserved, and exhibited the art of its time, often working directly with living artists. This tradition has given rise to one of the world’s most extraordinary collections of modern and contemporary art.

ART ALIVE 2026—CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Join us for a very special Art Alive on October 10 as we celebrate 30 years of one of the Buffalo AKG’s most beloved traditions! Art Alive invites participants to bring works of art to life through creative, living re-creations of works from the Buffalo AKG’s collection and Public Art Initiative.
🖼️ This year’s celebration shines a spotlight on the Buffalo AKG itself. Participants are encouraged to explore the museum’s collection and Public Art Initiative for inspiration, offering fresh perspectives on the artworks that make our institution unique.
🧁 To mark this milestone anniversary, we're introducing an exciting new category: Edible Art. Professional pastry chefs, bakers, and dessert artists are invited to recreate a work of art using cake, cupcakes, cookies, or other edible mediums.
🌟 Submissions for tableaux and edible art are open! Visit buffaloakg.org/artalive.

COMING SOON: "Ali Banisadr: Temple of the Mind" opens June 26. Given the artist's deep interest in art history, the Buffalo AKG has invited Banisadr to participate in the first-ever artist collection intervention. In addition to an installation in the Hemicycle Gallery, a focused selection of Banisadr’s work will be installed throughout the Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers Building, among the dreamlike imaginings of the Surrealists and the unbridled energy of the Abstract Expressionists.
