Immersed Games

Immersed Games Creating a video game as a platform for empowering, deep learning experiences.

We help teachers engage their students in actively doing science, by providing a video game that empowers students to directly explore science phenomena and solve authentic problems. For example, students work with a botanist to solve a food shortage while learning about genetics. Tyto Online helps empower students as they experience what it's like to do science, build their science and engineering practices, and become scientifically literate citizens.

We're seeking (incoming) 6th grade playtesters for our new math storylines. They'll have a 90m 1:1 session via Google Meets (camera on for critical facial expressions!) with one of our team members, where they'll go through a storyline on statistics and discuss the learning. We use this to help make sure kids are getting the right learning out of it! We'll also send a $10 gift card afterwards, to a place of their choice.

Please DM us if you're interested, and we will send you a link to schedule.

Note: Due to curricula differences, this is only available for students based in the U.S.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We are doing research to help us with an upcoming pilot program that will facilitate parental engagement in student learning.

Surveys have shown that parents want to engage with their kids about what they’re learning at school, but many don’t know where to start. We want to bridge that gap by reaching out directly and helping parents stay in the loop about…

- What your kids are learning in school (specifically with Tyto Online)
- How this science applies to future careers, as well as everyday life
- How to take advantage of relevant learning opportunities with your children when they’re not in the classroom

If you’re interested in participating in a “stakeholder interview,” schedule using this link!

We want to know… How do you think parental involvement can impact student learning and engagement? What are some challenges you have faced when trying to keep parents “in the loop”?

We are developing a new feature in Tyto Online called Expeditions, in which students would need to work together in groups to solve a problem in an ecosystem. Compared to our base game, Expeditions is more collaborative and open-ended, focusing more on science and engineering practices rather than p...

We're excited to announce that we're starting conversations about partnering with curriculum and program providers to create custom game-based learning content to embed in their programs, using the Tyto Online platform. Here's some examples of how our model can work in other areas besides science.

Our Story

We are creating a video-game based platform where you will be able to learn anything. Students create a character in an online 3D world with educational, enrichment, and simply fun social content. This is the base game structure that includes addictive, sticky elements such as a leveling system, achievements and badges, and the social and story aspects. We can flexibly add modules of content into the game. Each module includes two parts: — Quest to Learn: quests aligned with standards, which are great learning tools as they involve problem solving within the context/story of the game (which gives it relevance). — Learning Sandbox: capstone experience that is re-playable where students build and learn through experimentation. The Learning Sandbox is part of our unique approach to educational gameplay, allowing students to "pull in" learning to master the game, rather than simply pushing the information onto them. Our first module is for middle school ecology, with quests that teach the content through problem solving (for example, solving an invasive species problem), and a sandbox where students build and maintain their own ecosystem. Most people in the educational games space tend to focus on making interesting individual apps, but they don’t support long-term retention of users, and the learning benefits that come with it. In contrast, by building with core content, enrichment, and social contest all in a single game world crafted for relevant learning experiences, we’ll be able to retain users in our game, leading to more learning and, of course, recurring revenue. Another benefit of keeping the students’ learning gameplay together in this single game is that we’ve built a learning dashboard that tracks their progress over time. We’ll be able to suggest the next relevant content, and even use it to bridge the gap to real-life. As students complete quests, we suggest related activities the parent can complete with them to connect the learning experiences. Find our game, Tyto Online, at www.tytoonline.com
