You have heard of PPD or PTSD....how about what actor's and theatre people might experience....Post-Show Depression (PSD)? Yes, this is an undiagnosed phenomenon, but here are a few tips to escape this ailment:
Tip #1 - STAY CONNECTED - Remember you just made some amazing new friends. Connect with them, or even connect with some friends from previous shows. Stay Connected, it will not only make you happy, but may even land you your next job.
Tip #2 - EXERCISE - This is not just for show people. But exercise actually increases positive energy with your mind and body, giving you a feeling of happiness. So, when things may seem down, give your body that needed boost to put your mind in the right frame. Not to mention - we usually add a few pounds after a show due to our relaxed schedule. So, keep up the physique, and keep your body and mind sharp.
Tip #3 - YOU - You have been working on a project that has consumed your mind, body, time, and everything else. Find something that you've been wanting to do. (a new hobby, a trip, reading a book, or my personal favorite -sitting outside and letting my mind wander - it's summer after-all)
Tip #4 - SOMETHING NEW - What was it that you wanted to do after the show? All of us usually say, I wish I had more time to do _____. So, why not? Why not now? I revert to Tip #3 - It's all about you and your development.
Tip #5 - WHAT's NEXT? - Now that you have completed steps 1-4 you are ready for.....your next show/project!!! What is that project? What are you doing differently to be recognized by those producers/directors? How are you Staying Connected to those people in your COI (Circle of Influence)?
In conclusion, these steps are common sense, but they can help you make the transition quicker and keep you in front of everyone that you want to be in front of, with a positive mindset.
