Oops! We made a bit of an editing error in our last video, a and we also managed to get the date wrong. It's been a very emotional few days, we hope you understand the mistake.
After five incredible years, The Roaring 420s Lounge is closing its doors.
We started The Roaring 420s because we believed our community needed a place to come together—a place to sesh, make friends, share knowledge, support one another, and simply exist together around something that had spent generations being pushed into the shadows.
Five years later, we believe in that mission more than ever.
Unfortunately, New York State still has not made onsite consumption facility licensing available—even though onsite consumption licensing was established alongside dispensary licensing five years ago.
We held on as long as we could, hoping the legal framework we were promised would arrive and allow what we built to become sustainable. It hasn't.
Our biggest regret isn't losing the building, or even the time and money we've invested. It's knowing that in a week, our community won't have this place to go.
But while this Lounge is closing, The Roaring 420s doesn't have to.
In fact, we hope this becomes something bigger.
Soon, we'll show you how to open a Roaring 420s chapter in your own community. At its core, all it takes is a space and 3–5 dedicated people willing to volunteer their time.
We'll help with the rest.
We'll share our systems, our experience, our successes and our mistakes to help new chapters get started.
Someday, we hope there are Roaring 420s chapters across New York and beyond—places to gather, and places where the plant can be the whole point.
This is the end of a chapter, not the story.
We're open all week, and Saturday, October 10th, we'll be here all day and night for one last hurrah.
Come smoke with us. Tell some stories. See old friends. Make new ones. Maybe even talk about what the next chapter could look like.
Five years ago, we set out to create a space for a community.
We discovered that the community was the space all along.
Now it's time to see where you build it next. 💚
