Story time!!! I was running our table at the Girl Scouts of WNY MakeHER Fair today at West Side Bazaar when this lovely couple came up to the table.

They told me that six years ago, he had purchased some of our stationery to write a very special letter so he could propose to her!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹

Obviously she said yes and they have been married for five years. And that, my friends, is the magic of Papercraft Miracles. ❤️❤️❤️

The Old First Ward Art & Heritage Festival has more than a dozen workshops to choose from! Let's start highlighting them...

First up, we have Paper Pumpkin Collage Decorating with from 2-6PM.

Participants will decorate small pie pumpkins using strips of handmade paper, sheet music or book pages, gluing them down to cover the entire surface. The decorated pumpkins will last all season and then can be composted or tossed into the garden later to return to the earth. Fun craft for all ages. Under 5 will likely need some assistance from an adult.

Really excited for our collaboration with Eva Jean called Duly Noted, made possible by a grant from The WASH Project and their fabulous executive director, Ruby Merritt 𝗥𝗨𝗕𝗬 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗧.

Over the next year we will be working with Eva in our studio to help her produce handmade journals for the purpose of helping people in our community who are struggling with mental health issues. The journals will be available in several places around Buffalo.

We will also be helping her to put on a series of workshops focused on journaling for mental health.

This project is such a perfect fit for our mission to create positive change in the world through art and I’m forever grateful to be able to do this work with such awesome and inspiring women.

Let’s DO THIS!

People often ask me why I started this business and why I worked so hard to keep it going all these years. And it took me a long time to come up with an answer that really felt like truly encompassed the reason…because there were lots of reasons.

But the pandemic and the pivots we had to make during that time really helped me to see what exactly IS the magic that Papercraft Miracles brings to the world and why does it matter…and it’s this.

This work restores connection—to myself, to others and to the world around me. And not only that, it does the same thing for other people.

I first came up with the idea of Papercraft Miracles way back in college during the hardest year of my life. All in the span of 6 months, my mom died and then on what would have been her next birthday, my dorm burnt to the ground with all my stuff in it while I was in it.

But it was in the wake of all that grief and trauma that I started making artists books about coming back to life after you think you’re gonna die. And making them helped me come back to life—to restore my connection.

But when I shared them with other people something magical happened. Over and over, people would come up to me and say, “I’m not the same person I was before I saw that.” I had made them think and feel differently— I restored their connection too. And I got hooked on helping others to heal in this way and vowed to do it as often and as intentionally as possible.

So that’s why the company is called Papercraft Miracles because making and sharing this art saved me when I literally had nothing. It restores connection over and over again…for me, for others and for the world.

My kid made this little book in our studio yesterday, all on his own using scrap materials he found lying around.

And it’s just the cutest thing ever.

This is what happens when there’s no iPad, no TV, no video games. Miniature handmade books about fruit.

Raise ‘em right.
