The music brought us together. The memories keep us connected.

This summer, the Historic Colored Musicians Club Jazz Festival was more than incredible performances. It was a celebration of community, connection, and the joy of experiencing live jazz together.

From familiar faces to first-time visitors, every person who joined us helped make the festival something special.

The heart of the Historic Colored Musicians Club Jazz Festival has always been the music—and the musicians who bring it to life.

From the first note to the last, the Queen City Jazz Festival was a reminder that jazz isn't simply something we preserve. It's something we play, share and pass forward.

Some moments deserve an encore.

This summer, the Historic Colored Musicians Club Jazz Festival filled the air with music, brought our community together, and added another chapter to a story generations in the making.

And while the season has changed, these moments are worth revisiting.

When Black musicians in Buffalo were shut out of the white musicians union a century ago, they refused to be silenced and built something of their own. 🎺 Out of that struggle came the Colored Musicians Club, one of the oldest continuously operating clubs of its kind anywhere in the country.

Founded in the early twentieth century on Broadway, the club became a home for Black artistry and a stop for the greats passing through town. 🎶 Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and so many legends are said to have played or gathered here, in a room thick with music and pride. It was more than a club, it was a stand for dignity and belonging.

More than a hundred years on, the music still plays there every week. It stands as a living monument to talent that would not be turned away.
