Sugar City

Sugar City We are a volunteer-run, all-ages, community-based group. Sugar City exists to organize alternative community arts and cultural events in the buffalo area.

Our goal is to share and create art based on participatory culture and a do-it-together attitude. Events and initiatives include, but are not limited to music, films, a zine library, meeting space, local craft corner, art gallery, workshops, and workspaces. We want to break down the barriers of what is and isn't "art" because in some way everyone is an artist. Sugar City is about sharing creativit

y and energy. This organization focuses itself on the exhibition, performance, and creation of art for those who cannot obtain space from traditional sources. We do not conduct any official business via Facebook. Please email us [email protected] for any inquiries. Please be patient in waiting for a response as we are a volunteer run collaborative or come down to an event to talk with someone in person. You can find some info at buffalosugarcity.org

Thank you Kevin Cain and UB Arts Collaboratory for this amazing interview on How Now! "All things must pass. The foundation of the art community shifts and passes from generation to generation, and individual to individual. This week on How Now we explore the history of Sugar City with OG Sugar Citizens Aimee Buyea, Dan Corosa, and Curtis A. Guy. From an initial desire by a couple of friends to create an accessible space for all ages, to receiving grants and forming a non-profit organization, we follow the history of this indelible and vital organization in the Buffalo arts community. We will also hear about the future of Sugar City as the arts shift toward the virtual and digital."

We are moving out this weekend and there is a lot of free stuff on the curb. Jars, dishes, silverware, totes, wood, paint and more awaits a curious and thrifty passerby.
