‼️Our 12 inch gauge Ottaway steam locomotive #1 finally arrived at the farm this evening after its brief stay at the Western Maryland Scenic’s Ridgeley Yards.‼️

For the moment she is in our shop building at the farm as we prep her for autumn service. Meanwhile, heavier 12lbs has also finally arrived on the farm today to replace the lighter rail on the old 7 1/2 inch gauge line as we prepare to upgrade to the dual 10 1/4 inch/12 inch gauge railroad loop on the farm.

As always, the weather over the past couple summers has caused significant delays to the upgrading and completion of the ranch railroad. By early September we will have demonstration rides available on a few sections of the newly upgraded dual gauge line which will include our Christmas trains and now with most of the remaining materials onsite as well as a new engine house building for the far side of the farm, we expect the full circle loop to be completed by April 2027.

Engine #1 the Holly Marie, 79 years young, now joins the rest of our 10 1/4 inch & 12 inch gauge fleet of historic park sized live steam locomotives built between the mid 1940s through the late 1970s!❤️🚂

🚨IMPORTANT SAFETY INFO🚨

🚧Construction🚧

As the weather improves and construction continues over the next couple of weeks, we remind drivers to SLOW DOWN and look for contractors and employees as they work safely to unload materials or vehicles off of Highway 96.

⚠️All too often, people drive through our small section of Hyndman/Buffalo Mills going well over the speed limit. This is already dangerous due to the blind curve and several small businesses and residents with young children or elderly folks along our short section of road.

‼️If you are given instruction to pass a work vehicle, remember to pass slowly and carefully just as you would in any normal work zone on the highway! DO NOT race passed as you may find workers/contractors and oncoming traffic on the other side. This is COMMON SENSE! We have already had one incident this morning where a woman told to pass safely nearly hit one of our contractors as well as a vehicle stopped in the opposite lane because she sped around far too quickly‼️

It only takes a couple of minutes for a truck to unload or safely turn or for a vehicle to pull off and back down one of the utilities drives.

❗️Agression and wreckless driving towards our employees, contractors and other motorists in the area WILL NOT be tolerated and liscense plate info of the offenders will be sent in to the authorities and police notified! 🚔🚨❗️

We are here at the Lincoln Motor Court off Route 30 Manns Choice, Pennsylvania with our friends at the Hyndman-Londonderry Museum for the Secret Santa Society’s Christmas in July event.

We have some raffle items available including a handmade Kingsize Quilt, Grinch Themed Christmas Tree and a special bundle box from our friends at Little Wills Creek Ranch including some fun alpaca products and a complete HO scale Christmas train set.

Raffle tickets for the Quilt and Grinch Tree are $2 each and tickets for the Little Wills Creek Model Train & Alpaca Bundle are $3 each.

Now that the extra wet weather from spring and early summer has mostly subsided, we are able to wrap up on our next phase of farm construction work over the next month.

We have two new buildings coming from Shawnee Structures in Bedford. One of them (a three stall horse barn) will be used specifically for our special needs/rescue animals (specifically those in need of a little extra care and needing space from the other herds) while the other building will be used as the 12 inch gauge engine house.

We want to thank the wonderful folks at Shawnee for helping us make this expansion a reality.

We also want to thank our herd of male llamas/alpacas for mowing down the front pens into a dry lot where the “special needs” alpaca barn will go.

During this time we are also wrapping up construction on the main public access areas used for our open house days/special events just in time for our 2026 soft opening the first weekend in September as well as continuing the addition laying 12lbs rail for the 12-inch gauge train fleet.

Ladies and gentlemen, our next public off-site event is coming soon!

We will again be traveling the relatively short distance to our neighbors across the Maryland state line for Ellerslie Days. In addition to a couple of our friendliest alpacas, we will have a 4x8 HO scale model train layout from our Wills Creek Hobbies by Little Wills Creek Ranch, LLC department in operation for folks to enjoy as well.

Today, Wills Creek Hobbies/Little Wills Creek, Ranch staff took a visit to nearby Altoona, Pa and the world famous Horseshoe Curve to see the Big Boy steam locomotive #4014 as part of the America 250 celebrations!🚂🇺🇸
