The fact that Monday is a just over an hour away is keeping me up tonight, so I am posting pictures from the trip to central Utah we took last month. The landscape was beautiful, alien and dry. What is your favorite photo?

This is my Into the Unknown.
Me and my biological brother (I call him that because we didn't grow up together) were discussing what it would have been like to be some of the first people come upon these pools.
They give off warm, dewey steam.
The color is vibrant and inviting.....but they contain basically acid.
I would have had to take my clues from nature...limited vegetation, no animals, almost magic like color....might not be safe.
I would hope I would further that thought process with some form of scientific testing-leaf or flower in water, something more fleshy perhaps, just to see what happens. As long as it wasn't me diving in head first.
In my imagination these pools are doorways to magical places and the purpose of the acid is to protect said doorway. Now to imagine how to enter the doorway...book idea anyone?

There is a reason Yellowstone is America's first National Park.....
Scotland born John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, had his first encounter with Yellowstone near this spot. It did not compare to his beloved Yosemite. In fact he called it 'gray and ashy and forbidding...' He later went on to say, ' Fear nothing. No town park you have been accustomed to saunter in is so free from danger as the Yellowstone. It is a hard place to leave......Then, with fresh heart, go down to your work, and whatever your fate, under whatever ignorance or knowledge you may have afterward chance to suffer, you will remember these fine, wild views, and look back with joy to your wandering in the blessed old Yellowstone Wonderland.'
The Roosvelt Arch the Northern gateway to the Yellowstone Wonderland. I believe that every time you enter a National Park your experience open your mind, connects your soul, and the only things that truly matter are the sky above you, the dirt and rocks under your feet, the air in your lungs and the companions whom have joined you for a grand adventure.

Sometimes as a mother I feel like I need this sign. Fire can be destructive but it can also be a saving force, a cleansing agent and a chance to become more beautiful. I got the opportunity to speak to a Forrest Service Ranger while taking the daytime photo of the smoldering fire. She explained the fire was long overdue and it was helping to eliminate invasive plant and tree species.
She also told me that at night the fires in Bryce Canyon typically smolder because the humidity goes up.
When I saw it for myself I was in awe. That night the fire was just as beautiful as the stars. The night photo doesn't donit justice at all. @ Bryce Canyon National Park

The last few days I have been feeling the itch to get out into the mountains. My awesome friend gave me that opportunity this week when we went up to Tibble Fork to take her family photos. The weather was perfect and you would never know it was crowded.
