This will be cool! Come see where science meets art!

After a visit from Heather Prestridge, the curator of the Biodiversity Research and Teaching Collection at Texas A&M, and her bat specimen young artists at the studio created 3D bats. They began the process by sculpting the bodies out of polymer clay on top of paper armatures with wings made from paper, tissue paper and pipe cleaners. Each artist was encouraged to finish their creation with any media or embellishment that brought their unique creature to fruition. These batty beasts were included in a pop-up display at the Parker-Astin in downtown Bryan during the month of September for multiple community events such as First Friday and Art Step. They are migrating to the Memorial Student Center on the campus of Texas A&M and will be displayed from October 9th through December 18th, 2026, at the James R. Reynolds Gallery. Visitors will experience an immersive an accessible exploration of bats through natural history specimens, large-format photography, pop-culture inspired artwork, 3D skeletal models, and research-based narratives. Together, these elements will illuminate both the cultural fascination and scientific significance of bats-from comic book heroes to ecological heroes.

This is an amazing class and we are going to have it again for adults in the fall. It uses sophistocated printing techniques and the students can continue to reprint at home. The pieces are great for cards and mixed media which can then be sold. There are a few open seats.

This camp teaches color, printmaking, composition and so much more. We have a few open seats next week. Check out the full catalogue on the website.

The kids love to get outside and splatter paint their portfolios and often their toes are even more colorful.
