WHAT TO EXPECT:
š¾Participants will shadow our Zookeepers and have the opportunity to assist with the daily care and husbandry of our animals. This includes tasks such as preparing diets, feeding animals, cleaning and maintaining enclosures, routinely observing/monitoring animals to assess their health and wellbeing, preparing and delivering enrichment, and more!
š¾All interns complete a formal enrichment research and proposal project for a species of their choosing. This project allows you to gain a deeper understanding of your chosen species, the considerations for their care in captivity, and the purpose and importance of enrichment. You may even have the opportunity to construct and implement your proposed enrichment idea!
āļøImportant considerations: Although our program can be lots of fun, it's important to understand that the job of a zookeeper can be very laborious and physically demanding. Zookeepers spend most of their time working outdoors, rain or shine, hot or cold. For our hundreds of animals, the vast majority of their daily care entails cleaning, cleaning, and some more cleaningš§¹š© The life of a zookeeper isn't always glamorous, and it's important to know that before applying! However, if you're able and willing to put in the work alongside our Zookeepers, you are sure to gain experience that can be invaluable for anyone interested in pursuing a career related to domestic, exotic, or wild animals.šŖ
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

At least 18 years of age
ā
Able to lift and carry 50+ pounds
ā
Able and willing to spend lots of time working outdoors
ā
Must be able to commit at least 16 hours per week (can be split into two 8-hour shifts or broken down into multiple shorter shifts)
ā
Must be able to commit to a minimum internship length of 4 months
