The woman choosing the bear trend has filled up my timeline like nobody’s business but instead of just copy pasta with the same stuff I thought I’d throw in some stats to back it up.
From the CDC: “Almost three quarters of female victims of intimate partner violence reported that they were first victimized before age 25, and more than 1 in 4 were first victimized before age 18.”
https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/nisvs/NISVSReportonIPV_2022.pdf
From the DoJ: “Among female student victims ages 18 to 24, a third (33%) of the r**e and sexual assault victimizations involved completed r**e, while 2 in 5 nonstudent (40%) female victims experienced completed r**e […]. The majority of student (56%) and nonstudent (52%) victims experienced attempted r**e or other sexual assault.”

From RAINN by way of the FBI & DoJ: “Only 310 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to police. That means more than 2 out of 3 go unreported.
Of the sexual violence crimes not reported to police from 2005-2010, the victim gave the following reasons for not reporting:
20% feared retaliation
13% believed the police would not do anything to help
13% believed it was a personal matter
8% reported to a different official
8% believed it was not important enough to report
7% did not want to get the perpetrator in trouble
2% believed the police could not do anything to help
30% gave another reason, or did not cite one reason”

The point is this: there’s evidence to back up why women feel the way they do & men, we need to stop acting like babies & look in the mirror. Thing need to happen to help women feel slightly safer around men if anything. I say:
Men should start asking women & fembies what we can do to make their lives better.
To that point, women should be able to —- and if I’ve said this once, I’ll say it a million times —- be open & honest the second we (men or anyone) f**k up. I can’t say that’s exclusively the cause of this, but it can be a step in the right direction.
Also, for transparency, I do donate $20/month to RAINN, & I encourage others to do so as well to help keep what they do working for victims & survivors of r**e, in**st, & sexual assault.
There. There’s my long shpeil.
