Just as one hummingbird commission is out the door, I’ll be working on another in the upcoming weeks, and grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it. 🤍

This one will be a 24x36, framed similarly to this piece, and I can’t wait to show you all! I’m keeping the other one a surprise until it’s gifted, but be on the lookout for the reveal coming soon.

It’s such a gift to have my work find its way into someone’s home through commissions. Seriously, the BEST carrot cake you’ll ever eat! 🥕Save this post and thank me later. Recipe below!

My husband is a huge carrot cake fan, so this is always on my to-do list for his birthday. It’s perfectly spiced, loaded with carrots and walnuts, and topped with the creamiest cream cheese frosting. My bonus daughter did an amazing job helping decorate this one! 🤍

THE BEST CARROT CAKE

Cake
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1½ tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp ginger
• ¼ tsp nutmeg
• ½ tsp salt
• ¾ cup vegetable oil
• 4 large eggs, room temp
• 1½ cups light brown sugar
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 3 cups grated carrots, lightly packed
• Chopped walnuts

Cream Cheese Frosting
• 2 (8-oz) packages cream cheese, softened
• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 4 cups powdered sugar
• 2 tsp vanilla

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray two 9-inch round cake pans.

Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg & salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk oil, eggs, brown sugar, granulated sugar, applesauce & vanilla. Stir in carrots.

Add wet ingredients to dry and mix just until combined. Don’t overmix. Divide between pans and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.

Bake 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 20–25 minutes.

Frosting: Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add butter and beat 30 seconds–1 minute. Add powdered sugar & vanilla and mix until smooth. Refrigerate briefly to firm before frosting.

Level cakes. Frost the first layer and sprinkle with walnuts. Add the second layer, frost the top and sides, and finish with more walnuts.

Dreaming of jeans, boots and cooler weather!🍂

There’s something about a room filled with pieces that have a story. 🤍

When I started this bedroom project, it began with an idea to find an antique dresser and restore it. Little did I know it would lead me down a rabbit hole of an antique addiction. 😂

Little back story… my obsession with old things goes way back to both sides of my family.

My grandmother on my mom’s side would always take me antique shopping as a kid. Definitely wasn’t a favorite. I complained several times during those trips. 😂

My other grandmother, on my dad’s side, gave me my appreciation of old things through our Hungarian family history. My great-grandparents traveled here from Hungary in the early 1900s, and I grew up hearing stories about my grandparents, who grew strawberries for a living, and the old practices they used.

Add in childhood trips to Biltmore Estates with my mom and grandmother, and I guess maybe it was there all along.

What started as a simple search for a dresser turned into researching how they were made, what details to look for, and the time periods that drew me in.

The wood. The joinery. The hardware. The imperfections.

Once we found the perfect dresser from around 1900, I found a nightstand from the same time period. Then I brought my grandmother’s chair into the room, along with an old lamp and book.

And somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t really decorating a bedroom anymore.

I was collecting pieces with a history.

Pieces that had been made, used, loved, and somehow survived long enough to find their way into my home.

And maybe the funniest part is that the little girl who complained about going antique shopping with her grandmother is now the woman who can’t walk past an antique shop without wondering what’s inside. 😂

I guess she knew me better than I knew myself.

Maybe it was there all along. 🤍
