Unfortunately, I hit a snag on my hip rehab. A few hours after my 6-week follow-up and the removal of most of my restrictions, my hip popped out of place. After the doctor got it back in the socket, he put me on 12 more weeks of restrictions. In light of this, we’ll have to cancel our May activities at the Haunted Castle House, but hopefully we’ll be ready to start back up in July. On a brighter note, the renovations to the house are coming along beautifully and are almost completed. We apologize for the schedule changes and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Join us Saturday, May 23, 2026 for 𝓐 𝓝𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 𝓸𝓯 𝓢𝓬𝓻𝔂𝓲𝓷𝓰 & 𝓓𝓸𝔀𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓰, two of the oldest techniques used worldwide for spirit communication. Led by Dr. Steve Skinner, we will begin with a discussion of what these techniques are, why they may work, and how to perform them. We will then give a brief tour of the house to familiarize everyone with the rooms you’ll be using. Each person will spend 15 minutes alone in 8 different rooms practicing these techniques (for a total of 2 hours). The rooms will be lit by candlelight only. At the conclusion, time will be available to discuss your experiences and/or go back to your favorite room(s) for a little more experimentation. Steve & Judy will be available at all times to assist if needed.

Mirrors, dowsing rods, and pendulums will be provided. You will pick out your own pendulum which will be yours to keep. Additionally, one name will be drawn for a free Haunted Castle House T-shirt.

Going into this year, we are once again going to change things up at the Haunted Castle House; health and repairs continue to be significant factors in this decision. Our last major repairs should be completed in mid to late March. I’m also scheduled to have my right hip replaced this week so hopefully the house and I will complete our rehab about the same time.

We will be offering our 90-Minute Tours in May, July, and October, and we will bring back our 2-Hour Candlelight Tours in October. We will not be offering any Overnight Investigations this year, instead we will offer 4-Hour Private Investigations (8:00 pm – midnight) exclusively to paranormal teams beginning in May, as well. Please see the “Tours” page of our website for available tour dates and additional information (link in comments).

We are also looking into hosting a talk or two on paranormal subjects at the Castle House and possibly bringing in a medium for individual or gallery readings. Both of these types of events would include a tour of the house and grounds.

We apologize that access to the house is still somewhat limited, but our goal has always been to focus more on the paranormal and historical aspects of the home rather than the business side. We greatly appreciate the interest so many have shown in the Haunted Castle House, and the friendships we have developed over the last several years.

We’d like to ask our Haunted Castle House friends for their thoughts on the video attached below. This is from a family member’s home security system (not the Haunted Castle House). The alarm has gone off randomly 3-4 times over the past few months, between roughly 4-5:00am, and this is the image that’s always there, traveling the same direction.

They live on a large farm with the house set ~ 1/2 mile back from the road and it has a gated entrance. This video is of part of their driveway about half way to the house. They are not interested in the paranormal, and would really like this to be something explainable. We’re fairly good at debunking, but I haven’t seen an anomaly quite like this. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, especially if you can debunk it. Apologies for the background noise (I filmed it while it was playing on their phone). Thanks!

Happy Halloween to all our Haunted Castle House friends! As promised, this post is about perhaps our most exciting new addition. We have acquired a Victorian carriage hearse with an antique viewing casket (viewing caskets were often reused back in the Victorian era, with the body being buried in a less expensive pine box or just a linen wrap). This hearse was made by P. Short & Sons in Shaftesbury England in the mid to late 1800s, and we located it in southern Illinois. Currently we have this item at our home in Alabama until we can prepare a proper structure to house it on the Haunted Castle House property. We hope to be back to business-as-usual next year, and we hope all of you have a great Halloween!

We had an unexpected visitor at the Haunted Castle House today, a prairie kingsnake. These are great for rodent and even snake control. Very gentle and great camouflage pattern. Video in comments.

Our latest addition, an antique Last Rites/Sick Call travel suitcase set, recently arrived. These are used by Catholic priests during visits to the sick, the elderly, and the dying.
We’ll be posting our most exciting new addition closer to Halloween. Hint - it’s associated with funerals prior to the 1930s.

We have received another unique curiosity at the Haunted Castle House, a complete set of “Ye Witches Fortune Cards No. 62” from 1896. Unlike Tarot cards with their Minor and Major Arcana, these consist of the standard 52 playing cards, plus one joker and instructions. The “pip cards” (non-court cards) are illustrated to assist in interpreting their meaning. The 2 cents tax stamp is still on the end of the deck box. Cartomancy, using the standard 52 card deck to tell fortunes, goes back to at least the 1300s.
