Camps run daily from Monday -Thursday and end with a sleepover at the Zoo on Friday night! Kids must be age 7+ to participate.

These ancient mariners have been around for over 100 million years! Their ancestors survived the mass extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs, but today, all seven species of sea turtles are threatened due to human activity. Fishing bycatch, climate change, ocean pollution and coastal development affecting nesting sites are all threats they face.
Since 1978, the Gladys Porter Zoo has helped administer the Bi-National Kemps Ridley Conservation Project in Tamaulipas, Mexico where over 90% of the species nests. Since its inception, millions of sea turtle hatchlings have been released into the Gulf of Mexico. The effort is ongoing to ensure the success of the species for many more years to come.

Yesterday, keepers celebrated her special day with some Monsters Inc-themed birthday enrichment.

In the wild, chimpanzees can live between 35-40 years. At the Zoo, our chimp troop consists of individuals in their golden years, all between the ages of 36 and 53.
