Chautauqua-on-the-Rio is BACK for its 3rd season!! Since the Chautauqua tradition is one of America’s most educational & enriching staples, Búho will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States by continuing to give a border-town chispa to the Chautauqua spirit of celebrating curiosity, the humanities, and sciences right on the shores of the Rio Grande!

We will be starting Season III with “History & Culture” night this Friday at 7pm with several important & underrepresented topics in American history:

- First, Dr. Erhard van Deventer from UTRGV will be drawing from his dissertation on indigenous history to present “Comanche: The Power of the Southern Plains”
- Secondly, Gilbert Hernandez (myself) will be talking about Brownsville’s role in our country’s past with “America250: Brownsville at the Crossroads of US History”
- Finally, we have Africana Studies scholar (and current Mexican American Studies graduate student) Jodie Salazar present “Missing the Boat: Black Americans and the Struggle to Stay Afloat in a 19th Century Ocean of Ideas”

There will be plenty to learn about this evening to get a fuller picture of the United States, so feel free to join us for an eye-opening evening for the first night of the 3rd Season of Chautauqua on the Rio - only at Búho! 😁 🦉 📚
