A proud moment for the Mitte Cultural District. A milestone for all of Brownsville. 🎉🧡

Yesterday, we came together to celebrate our official designation as a Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts—a recognition that carries the stories, creativity, and dedication of our community.
Behind this moment are years of work by artists, cultural organizations, local businesses, and community partners who believe in preserving our history and creating space for what comes next.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported this journey, and continues to show up for the Mitte. Your presence made this celebration even more meaningful.

To our Brownsville community: thank you for giving this district its heart. We’re honored to share this milestone with you and excited for the opportunities ahead as we continue to celebrate, preserve, and invest in the culture that makes our city our own. 🧡

What a moment for Brownsville! ❤️🎨

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the press conference for the designation of the Mitte Cultural District as a Texas Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts!

Nearly 28 years of vision, investment, collaboration, and belief in the power of arts and culture brought us to this moment. Seeing so many of our artists, cultural organizations, community partners, elected leaders, and friends together made this celebration even more meaningful.

A special thank you to Mayor John Cowen Jr., Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, Office of Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., State Representative Erin Gamez, Texas Commission on the Arts Commissioner Diane Garza, Consulado de México en Brownsville, RJ Mitte and the Mitte Foundation, as well as representatives from the offices of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and State Senator Adam Hinojosa, for celebrating alongside us.

From the beautiful performances by ROCA-Revival of Cultural Arts, to Josie Del Castillo painting live, to our friends from the Gladys Porter Zoo, the celebration showcased the creativity, culture, and collaboration that make our district so special.

And a very special thank you to Warbler Coffee Co. and Jolie Petite for helping us welcome our guests and making the celebration even more special. We are so grateful to have local businesses like you as part of our Cultural District community!

Most importantly, thank you to every artist, cultural organization, board member, partner, and community member who has believed in this vision and helped make it possible.

This designation belongs to Brownsville. ❤️
