Hola, familia cultural!
As many of you may know, we are currently in transition as we prepare for our next group exhibition, the biennial "Castilian Roses in December".
We are thrilled to announce that we will be holding our opening reception next week, Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. We are partnering with the San Benito Chamber of Commerce for this opening reception.
This sixth iteration will showcase a survey of various regional artists who have created interpretive works based on the story of La Virgen de Guadalupe or the many facets that make up this patron saint of the South Texas / Northern Mexico region. A prevalent, iconic, religious, and cultural symbol, her image is woven into the fabric of the border visual landscape of the Rio Grande Valley. Her existence, while primarily understood in a Catholic context, has largely transcended this status, welcoming in conversations on indigeneity, personhood, shared experiences, and refuge. The San Benito Cultural Arts Department stands firm in its belief that this practice of engaging and dialoging with tradition is key in preserving the rich tapestry of our regional history while opening the door to further investigations and representations.
The exhibition will be on view December 4, 2025 - January 17, 2026, at the SBCHM located at 250 E. Heywood St, San Benito, TX 78586.
We hope to see you at the reception and if you do not catch us there, we hope you will make your way out to us soon!
