Good morning, familia cultural! Today we are closed for our Christmas Luncheon, however, we wanted to remind our community of the wonderful exhibition on view at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum currently.

Thank you once more for making the opening reception of our biennial presentation of the Castilian Roses in December (2025) RGV artists group exhibition such a success. The coming together of this exhibition and the support seen during our opening reception is a testament to the enduring nature of La Virgen de Guadalupe.

Today, December 12th, is globally recognized as La Virgen de Guadalupe's Feast Day. This day was selected in honor of the original manifestation story which took course over multiple days with December 12th being interpreted as the day Juan Diego was presented with the field of roses to be carried to the bishop as proof of the manifestation's divine validity.

This day sees celebrations across the world, with Mexico City in particular receiving millions of pilgrims in a mass veneration to her image.
For the Rio Grande Valley, although her feast day is spread across the region, many may be familiar with The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle National Shrine's annual celebration of the feast day.

Castilian Roses in December (2025) will be on view through to January 17, 2026. You can visit us at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum, Monday through Thursday 10a - 4p, and Fridays 10a - 1p — with a break for lunch 12p - 1p. of this exhibition and the support received last week is a testament to La Virgen de Guadalupe's enduring presence in our community and beyond.

Hola, familia cultural!

As many of you may know, we are currently in transition as we prepare for our next group exhibition, the biennial "Castilian Roses in December".

We are thrilled to announce that we will be holding our opening reception next week, Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the San Benito Cultural Heritage Museum. We are partnering with the San Benito Chamber of Commerce for this opening reception.

This sixth iteration will showcase a survey of various regional artists who have created interpretive works based on the story of La Virgen de Guadalupe or the many facets that make up this patron saint of the South Texas / Northern Mexico region. A prevalent, iconic, religious, and cultural symbol, her image is woven into the fabric of the border visual landscape of the Rio Grande Valley. Her existence, while primarily understood in a Catholic context, has largely transcended this status, welcoming in conversations on indigeneity, personhood, shared experiences, and refuge. The San Benito Cultural Arts Department stands firm in its belief that this practice of engaging and dialoging with tradition is key in preserving the rich tapestry of our regional history while opening the door to further investigations and representations.

The exhibition will be on view December 4, 2025 - January 17, 2026, at the SBCHM located at 250 E. Heywood St, San Benito, TX 78586.

We hope to see you at the reception and if you do not catch us there, we hope you will make your way out to us soon!
