🎭 In the Spotlight: Dalila!

This week, meet Dalila! What started as “I just need something to do this summer” has turned into over 3 years of spectacular shows, lasting friendships, and BYLP leadership magic. 💛

It has been such an honor watching Dalila grow into the brilliant young actor and leader she is today!

Get to know her a little better before you see her shine in Annie! ☀️

🎭 BackStory:
Her first show was the 2023 summer show, which she originally planned to do just once. But the friends she made begged her to come back again and again! Now, BackStory has become her “second home” and “second family,” full of support and smiling faces.

18 kids. craft supplies. ONE VERY EPIC CHOKEY.

Our August Off Script Outing was the perfect mix of crafting, pizza, Matilda, and absolute chaos. 😂

The kids built their own Chokey out of paper and aluminum foil… then immediately put it to VERY good use once the movie ended.

Some had never even seen Matilda before, and they still had a blast. 🖤

Older kids helped younger kids. Everyone brought their own kind of energy. And somehow, a pile of paper and foil turned into a whole evening of theatre magic.

Henry has been keeping pretty busy on the BackStory stage!

You may remember him as a Newsie (and a Delancey brother!) last year, or as Tiny Tim in our summer production of A Christmas Carol. Now he's working his way up the ladder to take on a pretty important role...

What happens when you throw a birthday party... BackStory style?

You get 10-year-olds, improv games, a stage, a red carpet, and A LOT of laughs. 😂🎭

Last weekend, Bella cashed in her custom BackStory Birthday Party from our Silent Auction, and let's just say... we may have accidentally created something REALLY fun. 👀

Ms. Christa led Bella and her friends through improv games before they finished the party with their very own mini-performance, and the parents were absolutely losing it. 😂

And because no birthday is complete without cake, Bella got a custom sewing-themed cake complete with a spool of thread, dress form, quilt, scissors, and buttons! 🧵🎂

We had SO much fun celebrating with Bella and her friends that now we're wondering...

Now that you've had a chance to wish her Happy Birthday, it's time to get to know a little more about Bella! 🎉✨

This kid is seriously spectacular. Her positive energy reaches far beyond the stage, and it's been such a joy watching her grow into the dynamic young actor she is today. 💛

We're especially excited to see her shine in Annie! ☀️

The Hard Things Are Survivable ☀️🎭 

Annie auditions this month were huge!

Our directing and producing team spent 15+ hours watching 30+ brave young actors sing, act, dance, shake, stumble, try again, and put themselves out there.

And we couldn't be prouder.

Because auditions aren't just about getting a role. They're about practicing doing hard things.

The shaking hands.
The cracking voice.
The forgotten line.
The butterflies in your stomach.

It's all survivable. 💛

And every time a young person moves through their fear instead of letting it stop them, they walk away a little stronger and a little more ready for the next hard thing.

Now, we're on the other side with the young actors who have accepted their casting offers and are getting ready to bring Annie to life!

We're already looking forward to first read-throughs, costumes, choreography, new friendships, blocking, big songs, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with creating a show together. 🎭✨

And at the heart of it all is a story about a young girl who keeps choosing hope, even when things are hard.

"Tomorrow, there'll be sun." ☀️
