ISSUE Project Room is a pioneering performance center, presenting projects by both emerging and established experimental artists that expand the boundaries of artistic practice and stimulate critical dialogue about art and culture in the broader community. ISSUE plays a vital role in NYC’s cultural ecology, facilitating the commission and premiere of new works and presenting a diverse array of artists working across the disciplines of music, sound, dance, performance and literature. Programming places a special focus on bringing recognition to artists whose important contributions to the creative field have been underrecognized, often as a result of gender, sexuality, or geographic location. Through the cultivation of innovative new work, ISSUE performs an essential research and development function that stimulates a constant influx of ideas into the local, national, and international creative landscape.

To celebrate Fall Opening and the close of our membership campaign, the first 10 ISSUE members in attendance this Saturday 9/12 will receive a signed, numbered edition of NNCK’s limited-edition cicada poster designed by Arik Roper (Arik Moonhawk Roper).

ISSUE presents performances by guitarists Noveller, the solo project of 2009 AIR Sarah Lipstate (Sarah Lipstate), and 2024 AIR Axine M (Axine M).

Noveller debuts selections from her latest album, I Am The Weather (2026), alongside music drawn from across her catalog. Working with electric guitar, pedals, and looping, Lipstate builds serendipitous compositions that create what Iggy Pop once described to Jim Jarmusch as “symphonies for people that don’t have a lot of time.”

Axine M performs with fretless guitar, voice, and computer. With “puppet strings taut between the constellation of musical control points,” she continues her exploration across genres and sentiments.

Just announced! For this anniversary season, Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix (2012 AIR) presents a limited capacity solo program for looped electric guitar, voice, electronics, and piano. Drawing from the Liturgy (Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix) oeuvre performed throughout Asia and Latin America over the past year, the evening also features new compositions presented at ISSUE for the first time.

On Tuesday, October 6th, the next installment of io brings together 2015 AIR and choreographer Kim Brandt (Kim Brandt) and 2026 SFCF Isabella Thorpe-Woods (btw).

Centered around never-before-released footage from Clear Night (2016)—Brandt’s eight-day durational AIR commission at Pioneer Works—the project revisits a performance that has remained largely unseen for nearly a decade.

Throughout 2026, past Artists-in-Residence and Suzanne Fiol Curatorial Fellows will activate ISSUE Online (io) in celebration of the 20th anniversary of ISSUE’s AIR program.
