Hasht Peykar / هشت پیکر explores various factors of body oppression in an immersive environment. The formation of communities around religions and ethics, structural oppression by the governments, or racism can cause individuals to impose certain restrictions on the human body. The piece mainly focuses on Iranian/Afghan women and q***r bodies, based on the artist’s living experience.

The Persian-language title Hasht Peykar (هشت پیکر) can be translated as eight bodies/figures/portraits. The body can be divided into seven parts: Head and Neck, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, Thigh, Shank, and Foot. In this piece, “the soul” is added as another part of the body. The name of the piece also refers to Haft Peykar, a romantic epic by Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi written in 1197.

Jesse McFadden Jesse Juno] is a producer, composer and performer of music, as well as a sound designer and audio engineer, and music technology educator.

He has worked in these roles for musicians and bands, artists, brands, startups, music festivals, schools, parks, and more.

As a sound designer, Jesse collaborated with Rafay Rashid’s musical performance of Jungle Badtameez, which occupied the space of Asad Raza’s installation work for the 2017 Whitney Biennial, Root sequence. Mother tongue (2017).

His recent focus lies in performing his own electronic music using hardware electronic instruments such as modular and vintage synthesizers, sequencers, and samplers. Using the modular synthesizer system he designed, Jesse pushes the limits of traditional synthesized sounds to the extreme, creating scenarios in which the sounds of electronic music are swiftly destroyed, exposed, and unraveled into clicks, blips, distortion, feedback, and chaos at the twist of a k**b.

A new focus for Jesse is now also developing systems for interactive sound art and music experiences and installations, also using modular synthesis and sampling.

Jesse is currently working on ‘Hasht Peykar / هشت پیکر’, an immersive experience, as a sound designer.

About

Aasoo Performing Arts has been founded by Hengameh Fallah in August 2017. It is a platform for practicing and producing theater and performing arts by Iranians and collaboration with people from other cultures, focusing on community engagement, cultural exchange, and social change.

It also provides an environment for interested and committed NYC-based Iranians to explore themselves and express their thoughts through performing arts, related practices, and workshops. The group members are not fixed and are selected mainly based on their commitment to a series of practices or finishing a project.
