Jane's Carousel is a completely restored historic Carousel made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC #61) in 1922. It is a classic 3-row machine with 48 exquisitely carved horses, and 2 superb chariots. The wood carvings, often attributed to John Zalar and Frank Carretta, are among the finest of their kind. In addition, the scenery panels, rounding boards, crests, center pole and platform are all original to the Carousel. It was the first Carousel to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Friends of Janes Carousel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization.

Thousands of idyllic childhood memories of Idora Park live on. ❤️🎠

Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio, was the original home of Jane’s Carousel, PTC 61. Here are a few memories from our Youngstown Guest Book, proudly kept at our ticket counter, along with a postcard from Idora Park’s days gone by.

We even spotted several generations of the Duff family, who once owned the carousel!

Jane spent years carefully excavating layers of existing park paint with an X-Acto blade, revealing the original 1922 color palette, one tiny layer at a time.

She then recorded each color by hand on tracing paper, working over large photocopies of every horse. 🎨🐴

As an accomplished art director, printmaker, and artist with an extraordinary eye for color, Jane had the perfect trifecta of skills for a restoration that would take many years—and an incredible amount of patience and precision.

This is the kind of meticulous work that brought PTC 61 back to life. ❤️🎠

Have you spotted that our chariots look a little different from the horses? 👀

That’s because they’re still wearing their original 1922 paintwork! During the restoration, Jane chose to preserve this beautiful piece of history, paying tribute to the artists and craftspeople who build the carousel.

Sometimes, the smallest details tell the biggest stories.
