The finished piece is refired, resulting in a food safe piece with a golden repair line that nods to Kintsugi, using only ceramic materials.

Each kit includes instructions and everything you need to repair 1-2 projects.

Kurinuki is a traditional Japanese technique that means “hollowing out.” You carve a cup from a solid block of clay, then hollow out the inside. It’s hands-on and intuitive.

Join us for Cup Carving with Nadine Sobel this Sunday, October 4, 10am-2pm at BKLYN CLAY West in Tribeca!

Nadine Sobel visits us to walk students through a handbuilding process including various methods for altering form by reductive carving and sculpting. Students will begin with a solid piece of clay carving the outside form with the use of carving bows and loop tools. Once the exterior form is finalized the interior will be hollowed out to create a vessel. This is a very hands on and intuitive way of working.
No prior ceramic experience is needed.
