Line by line…but I got there 🤣🌹🤲🏾

It is not easy for me to scribe the entire vision. I need each line to be exactly where I put it. But I know the limits of my patience. I engrave over my transfer because I don’t want to lose any detail from my original drawing. It’s what works for me.

MUCH MORE THAN A COMB…

The Afro-Hair Pick or Pic has been around for thousands of years. More than just a beauty tool used by the Black community and many other peoples of the global south. It is a symbol of identity, resistance, and strength. As symbolic as the Afro hairstyle it makes extend to the heavens, the Afro pick you see today came into prominence in the American Civil Rights Era. A time of great strife following a long history of utter hell for the African’s forced to come to the Americas under bo***ge.
As a little girl I saw my mother’s Afro and it was beautiful to me. As I grew I learned the Afro pick it was worth more than gold. It was a symbol of positive force, of community, creativity, love, and of course beauty. None of which can be taken from you. We struggle daily to find out where we are headed and who we will become.

Sometimes we need a light to find our way out of the darkness and sometimes we need a tool to show us our power.

And the Afro couldn’t become such a symbol without the right tool…

I know it’s been a minute…😸
But I’m slowly making my way back here and revamping my page. I’ve got a new website up, rebuilding my Instagram, and promoting my independent work more. Having a mind as multifaceted as a gemstone is exhausting. The desire to do all the things is overwhelming, naturally. So I took a break from all my personal engraving to enjoy life a little. But I’m back and ready for private work once more. Burnout is real.

So, taking a deep breath and sipping some water, I’m going to do my best. Keep it 💯
