What does self-preservation look like in motion?

Experience the answer at ChoreoQuest: An Evening of Dance Illustrating Acts of Self Preservation.

Under the direction of Nathan Trice, this year’s ChoreoQuest features original works by Babacar Mbaye and Tislarm Bouie—two choreographers using movement to explore resilience, identity, and what it means to preserve the self.

Since 1991, ChoreoQuest has provided Black choreographers with the space to create, develop, and present new work while fostering deeper connections through workshops, master classes, and community engagement. Join us for an evening celebrating the power of movement and the next generation of choreographic voices.

Our Annual Summerfest continues with the return of the Black Joy Film Fest—a free outdoor film series celebrating Black stories, creativity, and culture.

We’re kicking things off with Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution, the acclaimed documentary that tells the story of the legendary fashion showdown that changed history and elevated Black models and designers onto the world stage.

Pack your lawn chair, bring the family, grab your favorite snacks, and settle in for an evening of film, conversation, and community under the summer sky.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the generations of Black voices who refused to be silenced.

For more than 50 years, The Billie Holiday Theatre has carried that legacy forward—creating space for Black artists to be seen, Black stories to be told, and Black communities to gather, reflect, and imagine what’s possible.

Institutions like the Billie don’t thrive by accident. They thrive because people believe that our stories, our culture, and our creative future are worth investing in.

Today, we’re grateful to Brooklyn Org for helping make that investment go even further. Through a matching grant, every donation made to The Billie will be doubled, up to $10,000.

Pull up with your fold-out chairs, bring the family, grab some complimentary snacks, and get ready for a free evening of live music, spoken word, dancing on the lawn, and great community energy. Donations are welcome, and thanks to our Brooklyn Org matching grant, every new individual donation can make twice the impact.
