Our journey through the decades of Mark Morris' life concludes today with the 2020s! 🕛️ 🎉

During the global COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Mark Morris Dance Group shifted entirely to digital performances. During this time, the Dance Group premiered 14 video dances, which were choreographed and rehearsed entirely over Zoom.

Since returning to live performances in 2022, the Dance Group has premiered 7 new works and restaged 37 works, all choreographed by Mark Morris. During the 2025-2026 season, MMDG celebrated their 45th anniversary, and continues to debut and perform works choreographed by Mark Morris, with the most recent premiere of "Pizzica" in 2025.

As this decade comes to a close, we look forward to many more years under the direction and artistic vision of Mark Morris.

As Mark's 70th birthday approaches, we're winding down our journey through the decades by stopping in the 2010s today. 🕛️

Throughout the 2010s, the Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble continued to tour across North America, Europe, and Asia appearing in major theaters and international festivals while showcasing Mark's signature mix of musicality and inventive choreography.

In 2016, Mark continued his collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and his Silk Road Music Ensemble with the creation of "Layla and Majnun." One year later, the Dance Group premiered "Pepperland," an evening-length work celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."

Stay tuned for our favorite moments from the 2020s!

Today, our journey through the decades brings us to the 2000s! 🕕

Since its inception, The Mark Morris Dance Group had been dreaming of having its own permanent home in New York City. This dream was finally realized in 2001, with the grand opening of the Mark Morris Dance Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Almost 25 years after opening, the Mark Morris Dance Center continues to be a home for the Mark Morris Dance Group as well as for dancers of all ages and abilities. On average, 5,000 dancers, musicians, community partners, caregivers, and more walk through our doors each week!

We’ve almost completed our journey through the decades, but we’re not done yet! Stay tuned for Mark in the 2010s and the 2020s.
