The Neve started getting a little noisy (pretty suddenly) and a move had to be made. Out with the old power supply (blue caps) and in with the new (black caps) + close up of the offending filter capacitor. We’ll rebuild the old one and have a spare.

New to the studio pair of DBX 903 compressors. They are tight with a capital Tee! With all the gear here at the shop, I’m pretty pleased to report that these are cool and unique sounding additions. The music is very early stage of production work for the next record and creating some vibes. I can’t imagine the end result staying here BUT I do think it’ll keep us inspired.

Guess we passed a torch today when I sold this Tascam MSR 16S 1/2” machine to these fellows. They sounded like production partners and had been working at home on a Teac 8 track. I can happily say that their home studio just got a massive upgrade and I hope they treat the machine appropriately, make some great productions and learn a lot! FYI - we still have a 1/2” 16trk machine at the studio.

Some guitar amps at the shop. Each of these sound great but the Fender Pro Reverb at bottom middle is special to me. I found that at a pawn shop in Pittsburgh 40 years ago. I’d just relocated to NYC and was sleeping on the floor of a studio apartment share up by Columbia University. The Pittsburgh Pawnshop offered “lay-away” purchasing and I sent the owner the money ($20 bucks at a time). The next year during my Christmas visit to mom & pop, I went and picked the amp up. They owner had moved it to the basement and had noted the amount and date of each of my Mail-in payments on the last-away tag. $225 bucks! Sounds great and makes me smile! ps - that’s this amp in the track.

This one was a little tuff emotionally. My grandfather, for whom I’m named, made this tennis court in the mid 1950’s. He hired out for the site work but dug the court himself and got the clay out of the ground right here on the property. He enjoyed playing in it for about 35 years and raised up a family who can handle themselves pretty well on the tennis court. A session was not finished until the court was dragged, swept and rolled with a 300 pound cast iron roller and as soon as I was strong enough…around 10yrs of age, that was my detail. Anyhow, we’ve kept the forest from taking over for around 25 years now but this fall I decided to finally pull-up the tapes and just make the area mowable yard. Who knows, maybe the site of a future music festival!🦏❤️
