Signed Michelle K, stolen from a Tumblr post. Really testing myself on how much cursive writing ability I've retained since learning it 20 years ago. Wild that I still remember what the classroom that I was taught it looks like. What the smell of those blue "erasable pens" smelled like after we were given permission 3 years later to use pen for the first time in a school setting. How they smudged blue ink all over our lined paper and never quite erased like they should've. How we wondered what the point of learning cursive was and if we'd ever use it. What was the point of it all? Would we ever use it as we grew up? Once we had grown up? What is the point of it all if only for this? These children should be given the opportunity for these silly, simple, boringly curious questions. I know they deserve more.

"What I've gained vs what I've lost." Pencil on paper, 2020.
I didn't accomplish nearly as much as I'd hoped this year, but I still got to cross many things off of my to-do list during a historically stressful and overwhelming year. This is the first concept that came to my mind when the first of my three great aunts passed away earlier this year, and I intended on it being a painting. But I'm learning to ease up on the numbing pressure I put on myself- I sat down last night to sketch for the first time in a long time and this is what came out. I'd like it to be the main piece of a multi-part series I'll let those come to me on their own time. Here's to all the brighter and better things to come 🖤

Quick creative kick yesterday. Bought this shirt last year in Mexico and only got to wear it once before staining it with tea bags I had been soaking my eyes with (thanks mysterious illness for that one). It sat with my pile of other stained clothes and after 3 attempts at lifting the tea, it occurred to me to make a reverse tie-dye including where the stain was. Normally not a big tie-dye person but love how this subtly turned out. Also A++ styling. Prob gonna list some clothes/dresses for sale on this account in the near future to empty out some stuff I've been holding on for too long.

A little self-inspiration with the sunrise;; a reminder to not put such immense pressure on myself to achieve an all-or-nothing perception of growth. 🌄 I get so distracted by all the things I haven't done that I forget to see all the things that I have.

(Pardon the weird grammar/change of tenses- my 6am brain impulsively wrote that line before thinking it through)

Last week I watched JoJo Rabbit, and it brought back some of the feelings I felt when I visited Dachau this past summer. It was cleverly written, and finished with this quote at the end that hit me like a ton of bricks. My anxiety has been high recently, so I put some of it into this piece. Watercolor and pen, free-hand, roughly 7”x5". Subtle accent on each letter: can be enhanced brighter if desired. Each color bleeds somewhere into the next, and each separate piece comes together to make up the bigger whole. I'm selling each piece, asking $25 per. Not as pretty of a project as my last few, but enjoyed figuring this one out all the same... Patches has started to enjoy sleeping with me at night, but can't reach me when I'm up on my loft bed.. so 26' of rope and some 86 hot glue gun sticks later, this cat ramp will hopefully get the job done... Once I get her confident and comfortable enough to climb it 😬😅
