Founded in 1897, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (BKCM) has been serving the New York musical community for over a century. Through our Community Music School division, we offer private and group instruction in every major instrument as well as an early childhood music program for parents and children. Our Suzuki division offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, guitar, piano, and bass using the Suzuki method, which is recognized worldwide as a highly effective approach for teaching children the language of music. The Music Partners and Music Therapy divisions bring music education programs and music therapy to schools, youth, senior and adult-support service centers, foster care agencies, and other community-based organizations. Throughout the year, BKCM presents concerts and community-wide events, including performances by its Community Orchestra and Chorale.

Today, we remember and honor all of the New Yorkers we lost 25 years ago.

This morning, a group of our Suzuki violin students continued an annual tradition, visiting FDNY Ladder 112 firehouse in Brooklyn to perform “Amazing Grace” in homage to those New Yorkers, and to the heroes who saved lives on that day. ❤️

Last month, we brought BKCM faculty members Sophiko Simsive Emile Blondel Arthur Villar and Lucia Stavros to the historic Steinway factory to test out a variety of pianos for our new Performance Hall at BKCM Prospect Park West.

While all sounded beautiful, our team of musicians hand-selected the instrument that best suited the new space, which is covered in wood paneling and will be used by musicians of all ages and experience levels.

Thanks to the team at Steinway & Sons for helping us choose our favorite!
