Some choice xeroxed show flyers from the personal collections of Matthew Mehlan & Justin Frye — for shows by David Longstreth, Skeletons Big Band, Circuit des Yeux, Zs, MV Carbon and others — at beloved venues of a time ago: Zebulon, Cake Shop, Roulette at Greene St, and Silent Barn (including the first ever shows there, slides 1 & 2). Were you there? Let us know in the comments!
On 10.01 & 10.02 we highlight this era of Brooklyn’s music scene and DIY community with performances from davidlongstreth (Dirty Projectors), Haley Fohr (C d Y), Deja Carr, Mutual Benefit, Wordless Music String Quartet, The Fiery Furnaces, and Skeletons Big Band + a short discussion and reading from Us v. Them (panelists to be announced), all in honor of Us v. Them — Ronen Givony’s book on the Brooklyn music explosion of 2004-2014.
And later in the month Sam Hillmer (Zs, Diamond Terrifier) and Laura Paris AKA TROUBLE take over the space with Emanate / Crenellate — a one-night, sculptural and interactive multi-channel video installation for site-specific performance, featuring Dome Theater, Patrick Higgins, and many more.
Tickets at roulette.org! Night one is a Benefit, all proceeds support the creation of experimental music, movement, and media at Roulette.
