Join us on Sunday, June 14 at 7PM for a reading of SISYPHUS IN YAFFA by Forest Malley, directed by Sivan Battat. This reading is part of Stage Left, a new play festival from Working Theater and Broadway Advocacy Coalition that brings new plays rooted in real struggles for justice and connects them to organizations doing the work on the ground. This performance is presented in partnership with Theater Workers for a Ceasefire, and will be followed by a post-show panel with Chris Myers, Forest Malley, Jesse Jae Hoon, Ben Bonnema, and our very own Ariana Sarfarazi.

About the play:
Harvard professor Walid Elsady is invited to deliver a keynote address at a conference not too far from his hometown of Damascus in the ancient port city of Yaffa–or, as it is better known in 2021, Tel Aviv. In denial of the risks involved, he arrives at Ben Gurion Airport with his wife and star student in tow, only to find himself detained without explanation. As he waits in limbo, Walid begins questioning the stories he has told–to his colleagues, to his wife, to himself – and the compromises he has made to succeed in the West.

Belgium game with us and celebrate all of the SWANA countries participating in the 2026 World Cup. Jerseys, flags, and cheering encouraged! (Link in bio to RSVP.)

BIG NEWS: We produced a concept album for FOUAD OF NAZARETH! We have been developing this unapologetically Palestinian pop-punk musical by Fouad Dakwar since our 2024 Highlight Reading Series, and we are thrilled to share it with the world in this form.

Noor Theatre has big dreams for this show. We’re gearing up for a production in New York City, but we couldn’t wait till then to share this music with the world. For the first time ever, Noor Theatre acted as the Executive Producer for a groundbreaking concept album. Following in the footsteps of the greats — Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Madonna, and Paul McCartney, to name just a few — the cast and band laid down the album at the legendary Power Station at BerkleeNYC. Head to the link in bio to listen or find it on any streaming platform!

Join us on May 9 for our next Noor Night: a screening of THE HORSE OF JENIN by Alaa Shehada, produced by 55B Productions, New York Theatre Workshop and PlayCo. The evening will feature a special virtual appearance from members of The Freedom Theatre of Jenin. Ticket link in bio!

About the show:
“The horse in Arabic is a symbol of freedom. But to us, this horse is much more. This horse is us.” Built from the debris of a major invasion, the Horse of Jenin sculpture became a constant presence in Alaa’s life growing up in Occupied Palestine, symbolizing hope and resistance. Then, on October 29, 2023, an Israeli bulldozer entered the city, ripping the sculpture from its place — and from its people. Now, Alaa is left wondering… What happened to the horse?

While the live U.S. tour was planned for a 7-city, 16-week run, Alaa was denied entry to the U.S. while attempting to enter on his valid O1-B visa. Refusing to let border restrictions and discrimination silence his story, the live tour was turned into a virtual tour.

We’re launching something new.

Meet Keepers of the Light — Noor’s monthly giving program, for people who believe MENA/ SWANA stories belong at the center of American theatre and are looking for a path to support them.

$10. $15. $25 a month.

That’s it. That’s the ask.

Join our very big mission and a growing community of supporters who show up every month so we can keep saying yes to artists when it matters most.

Will you be a Keeper? 🔗 Link in bio.

Thank you for this artist testimonial!

“Hello! My name is Fouad Dakwar, I’m just your average Palestinian, Christian, immigrant, New Yorker, with Israeli citizenship, and yes I know what you’re thinking, I am bisexual.”

That’s the opening line of FOUAD OF NAZARETH—a darkly comedic musical we’ve been developing about a 17-year-old navigating identity, belonging, and what it means to be from everywhere and nowhere at once.

When we produced two concerts at Joe’s Pub last winter? Sold out so fast we added a second show. This spring? We recorded a concept album at Berklee.

None of that happens without community support.

This is what your donations make possible: → Workshops where artists test new material → Readings with professional casts → Fair pay for artists → The slow, essential work of developing a new play

We’re raising $15,000 for our next season of new work development. Artists like Fouad are waiting for a yes.

Will you help us say yes?

Link in bio. Let’s get to $15K together.

It’s Arab-American Heritage Month—and we’re celebrating by doing what we do best. Supporting MENA/SWANA artists.

For 14 years, Noor has been the ONLY theatre company in NYC dedicated to Middle Eastern, North African, and South West Asian artists. We’ve commissioned 22 new plays, produced over 40 readings, and served 550+ artists.

For 14 years, Noor has gathered community—in rehearsal studios, in theatres, at Iftars and.. Now we’re asking that community to gather us. It’s a circle. You show up for the work, the work shows up for you, and together we keep the lights on.

This spring, we’re raising $15,000 to support our next season of new work development.

That means: ✨ Commissions for MENA/SWANA playwrights ✨ Readings and workshops for new plays ✨ Community gatherings for our diaspora
Every time we produce a reading, it sells out. The artists are ready. The audiences show up. We just need to resource the work.

Will you help us get there?

Link in bio to give. Even $25 makes a difference.
