The Origin of Pentacle’s Name

It was one of our founders with an interest in numerology who chose the name PENTACLE for our organization. The pentacle is the symbol for the number 5, which is held to represent change, variety and constant opportunity, having progressive, adaptable and versatile qualities. Our goal is to live up to our name in the service of performing artists. Watch the video below to see all iterations of the Pentacle logo from 1976 to 2026!

Headline: The Emerging Artist Champion

For 50 years, Pentacle has developed all sorts of ways to help artists at stages get their work seen. The Pentacle Gallery was created in 1996 to provide emerging artists at that time with management assistance and promotion of their works at regional conferences and through Pentacle’s brochures.
Some of the original artists that were part of the Pentacle Gallery included Janie Geiser, Dan Froot, Victoria Marks, and Neta Pulvermacher.

Headline: National Choreography Project

For 50 years, Pentacle has been championing new artistic collaborations. In 1984, Pentacle launched the National Choreography Project, which grew out of discussions in the field concerning the need to provide new opportunities for choreographers and to enrich the repertories of America's dance companies.
The National Choreography Project was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, Exxon Corporation, and the National Endowment of the Arts, who together contributed $250,000. Pentacle compiled a panel, which awarded the funding to eight repertory companies, including the Dance Theatre of Harlem for a collaboration with David Gordon, Jose Limón Dance Company for a collaboration with Heinz Poll, as well as Pennsylvania Ballet for a collaboration with Merce Cunningham.
