Happy to share my perspective on the topic of affordable art collecting alongside Emily Manwaring .ill.e , Artist behind “Sun Chimes Through the Summer Song” a 15-color benefit edition of 250 screenprinted by Du-Good Press in support of

With moderation by Jenny Wang , Editor-in-Chief . The panel also included Anna Mesman, Business Development Director , Jeanne Landolt Masel Founder and Chief Curator , and Muriel Quancard Appraiser, Curator, and Strategic Consultant.

It was an honor to be among so many outstanding experts in the field. Thank you to all who made it out and asked brilliant questions. The main consensus is that affordability is hugely subjective! This conversation was recorded and will be available online

It’s been my goal to harness the power of screenprinting and bring art to the masses. I’m looking forward to stepping out of my studio and helping people of all ages screenprint on location this summer. I firmly believe that a well balanced education is the best way to create equity in a changing art economy. 💪🏽🧠💕More soon!

Swimming Ugly by Char Jeré 🌊
is a 12 x 16 inch, 2 color screenprinted edition of 12 on Warm White Stonehenge. Now available on Du-GoodPress.com

An open, yet rhetorical question about the need for money and the value of life. A dollar taped in place is nearly connected, by electrical current, to the continuous Atlantic Ocean current, which regulates and sustains life on Earth. These two function in opposition, canceling out each network in their eventual meeting. As the rising tides overtake a stagnant system, the word “stretch” lists loose needs and concepts overall.

Screenprinted in black enamel ink with pen blue detail, Swimming Ugly is a single screen collage of exposed objects for sound engineering, along with tape, oilstick, and grease pencil. Straight-cut Warm White Stonehenge paper rebutes the depth of inorganic substance this industrial specific ink is commonly used for.

This is Char’s third edition published by Du-Good Press.

Working across sound, installation, and sculpture, Jeré’s practice is rooted in a philosophy they have coined “Afro-fractalism”—where time is conceived as nonlinear and multidimensional, a conduit that connects the past, present, and future through intergenerational communication with ancestors. Their work investigates the fractures and connections of Black diasporic history, along with the possibilities for reclaiming and reshaping narratives around race and technology. Jeré’s collages, which synthesize a range of materials, incorporate incantations for time collapse and the summoning of spaceships as well as references to ancient cultural histories.

Lazos by Amanda Martinez is an 8 x 8 inch single color screenprinted edition of 15 on 350gsm Emerald Colorplan with a deckled edge. Now available at Du-GoodPress.com

As a sculptural artist, Amanda invents her own language of geometric abstraction, fashioning stencils or “profiles” of undulating shapes as distinct units of measurement with infinite possible configurations. When multiplied, these discrete building blocks take on infinite possible configurations.

This screenprint takes her practice down to two dimensions. Here, Amanda provided a sketch for a basket pattern along with a rubbing from a completed basket linking the origins of a shape to the resulting vessel. The title, “Lazos” translates to “loops” or “ties” from Spanish. When printed in alignment with the 4 corners of a square, this drawing proved structural integrity where every repeated gesture is united with hypnotic balance. The zero value of gloss white ink describes the form more fully by reflecting light against a natural green.

Martínez’s work draws upon her intergenerational family history of working in adobe (earthen construction) as well as the visual languages of southwestern vernacular architecture and craft movements.

Its When the Seasons Change that all Things Really Become Themselves and Try on New Clothes and Possibly Present the Versions Never Seen Before or Again

by Paul Wackers

An 11 color 27 x 23 inch screenprinted edition of 16 on 320gsm Coventry Rag.

I continue to be a big fan of Paul’s and went to many of his shows over the years. His work is known to incorporate a mix of colors and painting styles to portray familiar home scenes and still lifes. He sometimes paints potted plants as grounds for abstraction referencing art history within a literal or implied grid system.

Having seen the expanse of Paul’s curiosity branch into ceramics then print, I saw now as the time to invite this collaboration. I left scale and color count open after our initial meeting when I gave him a full roll of acetate, tape, and little instruction besides paint it black.

In different phases, Paul turned the raw material into something organic and beautiful. A decorative vase and wildly colorful plant with a bursting floral arrangement. He started this while fighting a bad case of the flu between blizzards not long ago. A painting ecosystem was created by letting loose then cutting and repositioning shapes to a more broad, human scale.

Color was communicated through hardware store paint swatches then tweaked after an initial proof and conversation. While there is a surprise and excitement found when control is shared, I was overjoyed to see new elements sprout and mature throughout this production 🌷

In Rhythm by Angela Pilgrim is a 16 x 12 inch 14 color screenprinted edition of 20 on 320gsm Coventry Rag

The underlying pattern in this print mimics the subject matter. Layers of bookcloth weave between rubilith colorblocks and warm stochastic halftone. Together these elements blend repetition with technical precision resulting in a harmonious texture of contrasting processes.

“In Rhythm” engages the hand clapping game as a site of cultural transmission, collective memory, and embodied knowledge within the African diaspora. The work centers the hands overlapping, mid-motion, caught in the gesture of play as vessels of a tradition that predates written record. Tracing back to West African ludic practices such as Ampe, the hand game has always lived in the body passed hand to hand, generation to generation, across geographies and time.

From the making to the end result, “In Rhythm” positions Black girlhood not at the margins of cultural history but at its generative center as the place where rhythm was kept, where community was rehearsed, and where the diaspora continued to recognize itself.

Thank you, Angela for coming over to play, print, and make everlasting impressions!

Take a deep dive into the work of Zoë Pulley today for DUMBO open studios at from 1-6pm at 92 Plymouth st. Brooklyn, NY. ✨

Her maximalist practice offers many perspectives. It was a pleasure to swap studio visits and make wildly attractive print dreams come true!🌈

Elegance by Zoë Pulley is a 22 x 22 inch, 7 color screenprinted edition of 35 on 300gsm Bubblegum Lessebo

It is composed of artifacts sourced from family photo albums. Zoë’s grandmother, Sandra Olivia Moon Hightower aka GranSan was a librarian and fashion designer whose preserved collection offers inspiration and guidance. The word, “Elegance” is written in hand-calligraphy by Sandra demonstrating resourcefulness and skill as a multitalented artist. This print acts as an archive using graphic methods to document and celebrate joy and Hightower’s extraordinary legacy.

The world “Elegance” is written in fluorescent orange with a glossy black drop shadow. Behind it, imagery is redacted and screenprinted onto white washed pink paper revealing an undiluted bold border.

Photo processed amplitude modulated halftone divides color channels into lines of undulating primary dots up close while reading as photocollage from afar.
