viBe Theater Experience viBe Theater Experience produces original theater and music about real-life issues written and performed by New York City teenage girls.

viBe Theater Experience (viBe) provides girls, young women, and nonbinary youth of color (aged 13-25) in New York City with free, high quality artistic, leadership and academic opportunities. viBe works to empower its participants to write and perform original theater, video and music about the real-life issues they face daily. viBe's performing arts and training programs provide the platform for participants to amplify their voices and "speak truth to power", by creating an artistic response to the world around them

viBe began in 2002 with a group of eight girls wrote and performed a play about the issues important to them: misogynoir, domestic violence, homophobia, social and economic justice, police brutality, mourning and loss, violence, teenage pregnancy, and more. Almost 15 years later, viBe is now experienced at delivering a unique pedagogy that is grounded in devised theater, centered in racial and gender justice frameworks and dedicated to placing girls at the helm of the decision-making process. In the last fiscal year, viBe directly served 565 girls and young women; in addition viBe impacted 600 NYC public school students and 2,000 audience members through invited workshops and performances.

Matriarchs on the Mic was more than a show it was a reminder of what happens when women, femmes, and community come together to take up space, share truth, and move culture forward. 🎤✨

From powerful performances to meaningful connections, the room was filled with storytelling, resilience, and undeniable energy. We connected with incredible artists and young people, sparked new opportunities, and continued building a space where voices are not only heard but celebrated.

Grateful to everyone who showed up, shared their artistry, and poured into the moment. This is what it looks like when we center community, creativity, and purpose !

Yesterday we joined the community in celebrating the farewell walkout for Commissioner Laurie Cumbo.

Swipe right for a surprise 💸

On Thursday, October 16th viBe and our program partner attended an official press conference announcing the recipients of the 2024-25 Community Grant Reinvestment Fund!

Through this initiative, New York’s cannabis tax dollars are being reinvested where they matter most: in our youth. Nonprofit organizations across the state are receiving funding to expand their work in mental health, housing, and workforce development for young people ages 0-24.

We are thrilled to join our fellow grantees in building brighter futures, block by block, with programs that serve, uplift, and empower.

Another end to viBe Theater Experience's fiscal year, another Black Philanthropy Month (BPM) where our community can give back! More than ever, the Black and Brown, q***r, trans, and gender expansive communities MUST learn and lean on each other during these uncertain times. We must continue to learn from our histories, our cultures, our traditions and use these lessons from our collective past to shape our present and future.
