With my books opening soon, I thought I’d share a new series contrasting real proposals against the finished tattoo result. 

People often ask how to write a good proposal, and the truth is: there’s no perfect format. 

Some clients write bullet point lists of objects with little context; some write personal mythologies with no set image.

Approved proposals can feel like a novel, or truly be only a few sentences long.

Featuring a selkie with her seal and woman form, half oyster shell with a pearl, ancient clay olive oil vessel with a triskelion triple galaxy, olive branch with fruit and leaves, ancient oil lamp, frankincense resin burning, stibnite: the crystal used for kohl in ancient Egypt, and a five-leaf clover.

Two-headed Silver Haired Bat, bisected with decomposing forces. 

Flanked by the harbinger of death: the hawk, clutching its prey on a burning branch, and a skeletal raven feeding its new hatchling in a nest.

Below will come a divided lepidopteran, part butterfly, part moth.

All interconnected by spiderwebs.

“I would like a Pacific Northwest piece; split down my spine/center of my sternum with “life” on my left and “death” on my right, possibly incorporating day/night accordingly.”
