Arabic sinking workshop starts tomorrow, Tuesday, June 9 at 7 PM at the People Forum in Midtown Manhattan.

Sabah al-Sabah (The Morning is up) is a contemporary composition that celebrates the dawn and its spiritual significance. The song uses rich Levantine dialect imagery to explore themes of awakening, hope, continuity, and the eternal cycle of day and night. Through poetic metaphor, it invokes the roosters’ call, the prayer’s echo, and the celestial dance between sun and moon.

We just wrapped up our final class for April! Over the last four sessions, we dove deep into a curated selection of Ahmad Kaabour’s most beloved songs — songs connected to our childhood and memories and causes we believe in.

Thank you to all the participants who joined us this month. Your energy and enthusiasm made these sessions truly special.

We’ll continue with our workshops in mid-may with a few more of Ahmad Kaabour’s songs. Link in bio.

A glimpse into our recent show at Brooklyn Academy of Music earlier this month. Grateful for the energy, the presence, and everyone who shared this moment with us.

This gathering was part of a special Fisher Takeover for Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM), marking over 150 years of Arab cultural presence in New York City. Curated by , the event brought together artists from across the Arab community for a five-hour experience of live music, poetry, film, and connection—spanning the Fishman Space, rooftop, and beyond.

“Bringing the Shām to BAM” honors Bilad al-Shām—the historic Levant region (modern-day Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and parts of Turkey). A place layered with history, movement, and cultural depth.

This week, we will work on two songs by Ahmad Kaabour: Isma3 إسمع (Tue April 21) and Ya Sitti يا ستّي (Thu April 23).

• Tue Apr 21 | 7-8:30pm
→ Private Studio 265 W 37th St, NY 10001 2nd floor
→ Song: Isma3 إسمع — this song is about an ongoing movement that insists on dignity, strength, and the refusal to submit.

• Thursday Apr 23 | 7-8:30pm
→ The People’s Forum 320 W 37th St, New York, NY 10018
→ Song: Ya Sitti يا ستّي — This song addresses our grandmother — sitti —, the gentle and strong figure that stands in for a community enduring violence yet holding onto self-respect and tenderness.

In this series of workshops, help us learn songs of Ahmad Kaabour (1955–2026), a highly influential Lebanese singer, songwriter, composer, and actor, who is widely recognized as a pioneer of politically engaged Arab music, particularly through his songs that became anthems for the Palestinian struggle and Lebanese resistance.

All levels are welcome. Link in bio.

This Tue April 14, we learn: وبيلبقلك يا بيروت

Artist: Ahmad Kaabour
Album: Ramadaniyyat (2011)
Lyricist: Abdel Ghani Tlais

This song وبيلبقلك يا بيروت speaks to Beirut, the city that symbolizes defiance and resilience, a city that Ahmad Kaabour composed many songs for, praising its beauty and character and liveliness.

As part of our ongoing workshop honoring the legacy of Ahmad Kaabour, and in solidarity with Beirut, South Lebanon, and all cities that are bombarded by the US Israeli war machine, we’ll be diving into some of Kaabour’s most beloved and resonant pieces.

Led by Hadi Eldebek, each session explores a different song from Ahmad Kaabour’s repertoire.
