I used to think smaller paintings were faster to make but it’s not true for me. This 13 x 19 inch painting, “Study for Invocation”, took longer to complete than the much bigger full sized version.‹
For me at least, there are a similar number of decisions that go into whatever size canvas I’m working on. Here the smaller canvas was used to help make decisions for the larger one. This is especially helpful when there is gold leaf involved- some path-finding makes using that material easier.‹
“Study for Invocation” is part of a second installation of “The School of Goodness and Beauty” at .art - a show about a different type of pathfinding- the kind that a really good teacher makes available. One of several exhibits organized by as a tribute to who made the path much clearer for me when I had the good fortune to study with him as an undergrad at

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: SFFA is thrilled to have the work of Randall Stoltzfus in our current exhibition “The School of Beauty & Goodness” at our Tradewynd Gallery. This show features the work of Philip Geiger and six of his former students. Join us for the opening reception on January 4th, from 2-5pm.

Randall Stoltzfus was raised in rural Virginia. He earned his B.A. with the highest distinction from the University of Virginia. He completed his graduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally: the United States, Korea, and in Italy, where he was an artist in residence at an active psychiatric hospital. Stoltzfus has work included in numerous private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
