The Painted Series - a series exploring adding natural clays & forming slips and added them as colour fields, markings or loose abstracts. The clays and how they will react were not tested so there was@the wonderful element of surprise both in form and final colour after firing. In addition to slips I have added terra sigillata in either white or black, glaze pencil and daps of metallic glaze and clear glaze to highlight areas and create contrast between the clay body and slips which are matte.
There are five currently in this series: Rock I, Rock II, Hag Stone I, Moon in Cancer, and Strawberry Moon 🤎

Hag stone sculpture 🤍
she is the first in the series of closed forms with a negative space..inspired by the ‘hag stones’ found on the beach in Brighton. She is built in a cream sculptural body and etched with beaming stars & scars, and finished in terra sigillata with a subtle crackle plus areas of slips and clear glaze.
In British and Celtic folklore hag stones are rocks with naturally occurring holes carved out by water and believed to protect against evil and the fae and have healing properties 🤎
