Today, we’re spotlighting six featured artists from Make Studio, a nonprofit community art center in Hampden, Maryland, that creates opportunities for everyone to connect through art.

Make Studio empowers artists with disabilities to grow as professionals, share their unique perspectives, and gain visibility and voice in their communities. Their work celebrates creativity, individuality, and the power of art to bring people together.

Ready to give the pottery wheel a spin? Join ceramic artist Chukwuemeka (Meka) Iyke-azubogu for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to center clay and create your own bowls and cylinders. Perfect for beginners or anyone ready to get back into clay! No experience necessary.

✨TODAY✨ARTIST TALK: PAUL W. GILLESPIE Paul W Gillespie

Join us at Chesapeake Arts Center for an evening of conversation, photography, and stories behind the images.

Thursday, October 8 from 6–7 PM, exhibiting artist Paul W Gillespie will sit down for a Q&A with guest interviewer and artist Nic Berg in our Patricia Barland Gallery.

For more than two decades, Gillespie has documented the people, places, and moments that make up the fabric of everyday life — from photojournalism and street portraits to community celebrations, music, and those quiet, unscripted moments that tell a bigger story.

Come hear the stories behind the photographs, learn more about Gillespie’s creative process, and get an inside look at the work featured in his current exhibition.

🔨 MEET THE MAKERSPACE INSTRUCTOR: DYLAN TOLER

Meet Dylan Toler, one of the talented instructors teaching in the CAC MakerSpace!

Dylan is passionate about handicrafts, with a particular love of woodworking, furniture making, and traditional hand-tool techniques. Raised in Maryland, his lifelong curiosity—and his tendency to ask “why?” and “how?”—continues to fuel his creativity, craftsmanship, and love of learning from others.

Whether you’re a seasoned maker or just curious about working with wood, Dylan’s classes offer a chance to learn new skills, get hands-on, and make something you can take home.
