I’ve never done a raffle before, but now seems like a good time to start. Violence against Black Americans has been ignored for far too long. After some self reflection and listening, I have been inspired by other artists using their work to help make change. It’s something I preach a lot to my students, and now is the time to do it myself. I know that conversations are important, but if those conversations don’t turn into action then it’s not enough. So here is the deal:
1. Dontate $5 or more to any charity or organization aimed at helping Black people and the current protests. Here are some suggestions: NAACP, Black Lives Matter, ACLU, Massachusetts Bail Fund, Reclaim the Block, Campaign Zero, The Marsha P Johnson Institute. While those are some suggestions, it is by no means an extensive list.
2. Send a screenshot of your donation to [email protected]. $5 per entry, unlimited entry. If you donate $50 you get 10 entries.
3. All receipts must be dated June 6 or later. If you donated yesterday, you’ll just have to donate again 🤷🏼♀️
4. Include your Instagram handle in your email so I can find you if you win.
5. For now, this contest is unfortunately US and Canada only.
6. Please enter by 6/12 midnight est. I will draw the winner on 6/13.
7. The more this is shared, the more money can be raised. I don’t want this to be a marketing ploy, but I do want to make as big of an impact as possible. If this is successful, you can bet I’ll be doing it again.
8. This isn’t the end of the line. Keep donating, vote, work with your community, have conversations, and protest if it is available to you. This work isn’t new, it’s just finally gaining traction among non-BIPOC.
